This is very interesting.  Does wicd work correctly with antiX-16.2?

Please post the output of"inxi -F".  For any bug report, this information should be included.  Put it between [ code ] ... [ /code ] tags (without the spaces).  This simple step often answers many of the questions we would ask to try to track down the problem.   Unless we are experiencing the same problem then we need this extra information to figure out what is going on and why things are failing on your system but not ours.   You may well have posted this information elsewhere but I'm not going to search for it.  I would certainly follow a link.

I tried antiX 16.1 live on the Dell Latitude D600 with the following results:

-Neither wicd nor ceni picked up the wireless.

More results on the other laptop:

Here are the results of antiX 16.1 live on Dell Latitude D610:
-wicd does not pick up the wireless
-ceni picks up the wireless and shows webpages, but even after connecting wicd says"no wireless networks found"

I will also check a Compaq laptop with 17 live that is currently running 16.2 and report the results.

for the dell 610, check the wicd preferences to make sure eth1 is show for the wireless interface

for the dell 600, can you provide the output of

For the dell 610, wicd preferences was set for wlan0 so I changed it to eth1 and now it works ie webpages open and there is an icon in the sys tray.

For the dell 600, I set the wicd preferences to wlan0, and it now works ie webpages open and there is an icon in the sys tray.

I also tried 17 on a Compac Presario V2000 and both wicd and ceni work.  With 16, I had to install a driver for the wireless before it would work.

So, all in all, 17 is a significant improvement over 16 for wireless connection on these old laptops.

I guess everything is now working on all three laptops.
