32 bit full version only at the moment. NB: This is an Alpha build
There aren't too many differences under the hood between this version and the 15/15.1 release.
Main differences are:
* 4.4.2 kernel so those cheap netbooks that have flooded the market will work correctly (many need 4.3 kernel and later)
* UEFI support in the installer. Work in progress and works for 64 bit only.
antiX-16, although based on Debian Jessie, uses sysvinit and eudev.
We are proudly systemd-free!
Defaults to IceWM with a Rox desktop. F6 at live boot gives the user many options.
For those with very old laptops/desktops, the lightest option in terms of RAM usage is JWM.
The min-* options do not use a desktop and no wallpaper to keep RAM usage down to a bare minimum.
Please test on real hardware as well as in VBox.
We are particularly interested in finding out how well the iso-snapshot app works as well as running live with persistence and remastering the running live session.
Users happy with antiX-15 have no need to replace it with this version.

anti,
does 16-a1 installer include the stuff BitJam was working on for UEFI installs, or is the UEFI stuff that we put together for MX?

d_o - at the moment mainly MX UEFI stuff with some extras but not all from BJ since MX-15 release.

I already encountered notebooks which run only with kernel 4.5 __{{emoticon}}__
I will download and try to compare with Holmes' JWM. __{{emoticon}}__
A question: Do you sign the iso or the md5sum on Sourceforge?

I tested the ISO on live USB stick. I tried to create the live stick with Unetbootin, but it failed to load on two machines. I forgot what the error was but s.th. with"32". __{{emoticon}}__ So I used SuSe Imagewriter (equivalent to dd command, I guess) and was able to to boot. But this way I won't have live persistence. Maybe will boot with this stick again and try to write the ISO with antix2usb on another stick.
The visual impression from live session is nice. I already forgot a little bit what the previous version looked like. But I remember they used a bit more RAM.
- Were there these Fluxbox styles with"Large" and"Medium" fonts on previous versions? I find them great! I would recommend to adjust the styles to have the icons a bit bigger, like on JWM. Do this by adding a line menu.itemHeight: 22 or 24 to the style config.
- Is is possible to make JWM menu appear only on right click not just with SpaceFM desktop but also with ROX and plain?
- A big show stopper was that I wasn't able to enable my WiFi card. I usually run sudo modprobe b43 and it appears. But b43 is blacklisted by default... So it would work only on installed or persistent system by unblacklisting it.
inxi output will be added later, here is it from another OS:

thanks for posting your wireless info. that card should work with the default driver. I'll look into it.

you could also use a live session of antix-16 to make the stick.
You will need to upgrade syslinux to make a bootable usb stick. also, at the com_32 error, just type"live" and it should boot, although without all the cool menu options.eugen-b wrote:I tested the ISO on live USB stick. OK, a few quick points, fully aware that this is alpha.
1. make users a part of vboxsf group by default (especially important if vbox additions are installed by default )
2. will 16 be jessie-based? if so, some bm files can be tweaked (supertuxkart, others). if not, then the libreoffice5 bm file needs removed.
3. can't test uefi in installer since its 64 bit only. uefi boot does work though.
4. link in applications>preferences for the Installer remains after install. non-functional.
5. gdebi?
6. persist-save
bind mount errors on persist save, which I would say fall down to something wrong withthe mount command, given the terminal output. However, I really like the error message the gui persist-save gives you when the persist-save fails. However, the console persist-save version on shutdown doesn't give you a pause to read any messages.
7. bind mount error also affects remaster-live

Booted again with live USB and this time I avoided to launch wicd, instead I launched ceni. First it didn't see the WiFi interface but after sudo modprobe b43 it did and this time I was able to connect! __{{emoticon}}__

eugen-b, thanks for the post about your wireless card. your particular hardware combination helps us eliminate some issues we were monitoring previously. we are looking at updating a script that tries to figure out which card is in use and what driver to use.
@anti, kmathern is going to change BroadcomStartup to fix this issue in mx-goodies, but is there a package online for antiX somewhere?

iso-snapshot
I've made 2 snapshots this morning, one resetting accounts, one preserving the user account. No hiccups with either.
"boot" menu says"custom name" for each. I assume this is a work in progress given the default boot menu seems to be using fields.
neither put a installer icon on the desktop. The installer icon in Preferences>Installer works for the reset iso but not for the preserved iso. seems to be looking for the"demo account", which isn't present on a preserved snapshot iso. running minstall manually from terminal worked fine.

- JWM theming: I would prefer the black JWM theme to have a lighter font colour in inactive window titles, the same white as on the panel for example. I wouldnt mind if active window decoration was dark as well.
- Hardware: I have a problem that my integrated SD card reader is not being detected. The same card in a USB adapter gets detected.

Same problem I had with MX-15, wrong Broadcom driver.
Love the way it picked up USB drive so I could save to it. A winner.
Pleasant drop in Ram usage too.
AntiX-15 has this bit right for the Broadcom business.
Will test more laptops.
