You could also try F4 - vesa and type xres=1024x768
I think the problem is with the xorg-savage-driver. Maybe it is broken in Jessie.

The F* keybinds were meant to be commented out and used as examples. Will fix.

Shucks Bro. I tried
In F5 vesa and safe. No change. Vesa was 1600x1200 with no way to change resolution with out making the screen unreadable or freezing up the laptop.
Then tried
That got me through the gui installer process though the cpu was hammering. My grub4dos idea of running and installing AntiX grub install to root also worked out.
Here is the good ,(think of the good and the bad and the ugly Italian western western movie with Clint Eastwood).
putting this line of code from /var/log/Xorg.0.log because I think it says a lot of my situation with the save driver when you google the error. I read a little about it in archbang forums dated about a year ago.
Here is my Xorg.0.log
Maybe later I will post pics of the"bad" and"ugly" later. I had to use my camera to take those images. I thought a full install would be better than live. But at least with a full install.
I can tweak things from suggestions made later on.
Right now. AntiX full install is unusable as you can gather from my screenshot. Which was not as easy to do as you think since my screen did not look like that. I took it when I did the"bad" camera shot.. You will wonder how I managed it after I post the photographs later on.
At least ram usage was low as 69MB. __{{emoticon}}__
Code: Select all
vga=normal
Then tried

After thinking, thinking, thinking, then busting my ass.
Here is how I handled it. I hooked up hard line ethernet 1st. Then modified kernel line in grub4dos menu entry to boot me into ro 3. Then ran smxi without the dist-upgrade. sgfxi gave me no joy. I tried updating xorg while in smxi and all it did was upgrade xorg and install wdm as the login manager. So I removed wdm since there
was a scrambled log in screen to deal with anyways and changing kernel line to ro 3 at the end just brought up wdm instead of cli screen on boot. So I changed kernel line to ro 1. Then proceeded to
Finished. Then
which I removed which also removed xserver-xorg-video-all also, along with xserver-xorg-video-savage
command was
Finished. Next was
So I
Finished. If I tried to install xserver-xorg-video-all. It wanted to reinstall the savage driver so I said no to that reinstall.
So where I am sitting at now. I have a 1024x768 screen running the vesa driver. No wireless because wicd is not cooperating and ceni does not pick up my mac or ip address after typing in my wpa2 pass phrase.
So posting this on ethernet cable. Rutilt is not installed according to terminal but the button is there in the antixcc.
I feel pretty good about figuring things out this far on my own. Way too many hoops for a new linux user though to go through with a laptop with savage video chip and AntiX 14. Now to just figure out why wicd does dbus error using the antixcc>network>wicd and gksu wicd also. I removed wicd.pid in /var/run/wicd/wicd.pid
testing trying to get wicd-gtk to work. After this post. I will try reinstalling wicd and all other things related to it like wicd-gtk and install wick-cli. Also. While on cable. I will do a
and see what happens. I hate not being wireless on this laptop with the new wireless N pcmcia card in here.
Other than that. Good news. __{{emoticon}}__

Nope. Reinstalling did not do the trick
So here is the /var/log/wicd/wicd.log
The D missing at the beginning of document write line in wicd.log is not a copy and paste error by me.
The log shows up that way in leafpad using root spacefm.
Edit: I see I forgot to mention. Installing rutilt was just a fubar route that should not have been taken. Lots of popup windows of errors like a Windows machine with a virus so I uninstalled rutilt.

The log shows up that way in leafpad using root spacefm.

WICD is still kicking my ass though. I can't go with Network-Manager as that wishes systemd libs to be installed to run it. Just try installing it and you will get the idea.
Later on. I will post screenshots on how Ceni is ignoring me. Maybe someone has a clue.
