Lots of bug fixes in this version, but I'm sure there are some we missed/overlooked. Be patient with us if you had previously reported the bug.

So, sysvinit 32 bit version only for development testing so the dev team can focus on getting this done right and then we will move on to 64 bit and systemd version. (systemd is not our priority at the moment)

Get it here:

linktext was:"https://sourceforge.net/projects/antix- ... antiX-14R/"
====================================

Note: the F4 option to check md5sums shows an error with initrd.gz. Don't worry just continue to boot.

Features:

* a customised 3.16.7 antiX kernel
* live setup is now done during the initial boot (initrd)
* daves desktop should work better
* option to set default repos to Jessie before installation
* minimum windows manager option at boot (good for very limited boxes)
* herbstluftwm included, wmii removed
* new default icon theme
* slightly re-organised menu layout
* reorganised boot menu
* isolinux/syslinux boot menu altered
* splash disabled at boot. To add type splash=v and choose an old option from F7

Please test and post issues, comments here.

There are still quite a lot of todos including

* localisation
* UEFI support for installer (?)
* new antixsnapshot in the works
* documentation

Should I try it on the old 512mb PIII m, nVidia and USB 1.1 laptop?

I'd like to give the OpenBox a run in a difficult environment like that if I can...

Sure, test it on as many machines as possible. In fact, the older, the better! Enjoy!

I would like to note here that the

antiX-14-a3-RD_x64-full.iso
and
antiX-14-a3-RD_386-full.iso

work completely problem free. Each week a running
apt-get dist-upgrade

Perhaps one has to be noted that systemd and an"old machine" are not mutually exclusive !.

About all your threads on the topic I have not even read by the dd-method. I'm only doing so to the ISO to the USB stick and from there to obtain the installation on the HDD ...

I was not successful booting from flashdrive via floppy,but maybe that was a plop problem.

I was successful booting from dvd, but had to give up because the dvd drive kept going into retry trying to run the install.

I will try with the flash again and try the 3 permutations of usb settings in plop to see if i can get any of them to work. I am able to read the flashdrive once booted via dvd, but it wants toinstallfrom dvd,not flashdrive,and i don't know how to change the source to the flashdrive instead.

PS: for some odd reason this time it booted from flash via plop floppy, so i'm running the install from flash now. that has always been reliable. If anyone else is trying this with a flash created under windows, unetbootin was the only way that worked. Not sure why. It could be a hardware issue with the adapter the flashdrive is in because it is new.

PSS: install from flash completed and the machine is running fine. It seems slow, but I haven't done any tweaking yet.

I know I have been using linux-image 3.16.? on my antiX13.2 and that has been stable.

Presently trying Icewm. Love the conky. Simple and effective with the stats.

Some one at church is supposed to give me an old HP desktop. I'll see what it is and what I can do with it.

I am getting an error on md5 for"initrd.gz" during boot up. I have now downloaded the file 6 times from sourceforge. The file antix-14-a4-RV-386-fill.iso loads fine as LIVE but has no install icon or file in any menu.

anti,

The only place I was having trouble was with gparted getting segmentation faults. Other than that, its slow, but its a slow machine, but its running just fine.

BTW, the isl3886pci driver needed to be added to firmware for the wifi card

that Santa brought me.

Edit. Booted up OK on My IBM T23 using my PLOP CD and USB 1.1 port with no special keystrokes needed from me with my 2 gig Kingston Data Travler usb drive.

No touching F keys, leaving defaults.
Boots to screen OK but CPU is hammering at 100%. I figured a graphics driver issue since
the screen got worse with scrambled sections of screen. Hard shutdown was required.

Next boot. Used F5 key for safe graphics. Knew something was up again as the mouse arrow
dragged as it moved across the screen. Conky showed CPU hammering again at 100%.

3rd boot. Picked Vesa in F5. Mouse moved crisply. Spacefm Icons showed OK. No Conky.
No taskbar in Icewm.

I right click and menu shows up OK. Cool. I open terminal and do a

Code: Select all

xrandr
1600x1200
I am surprised but not freaked yet. so I

Code: Select all

xrandr -s 1024x768

My screen becomes unreadable. Cntrl+Alt+Backspace gives me the pretty AntiX wallpaper planet
earth screen and nothing else. So Cntrl+Alt+Delete to reboot. No dice.

Hard shutdown. Power up. F5=vesa again since cpu seems to like that one.

Code: Select all

xrandr -s 800x600
give at least a readable screen. But not really. Just better than the previous 1024x768 option.
Seems like with Vesa driver. 1600x1200 is my only clear desktop with taskbar and conky and some applications that can be opened and not seen on the screen.

So I guess either my USB is the problem. I will burn a cdr to double check.
Or a command line install is the only option on this

A total of 2 failed install attempts. Both cd's md5 and burn verified. Freshly formatted ext4 partition (sdb13).

First failed attempt ...small JWM version.Cli-installer froze at the configuring grub stage.Waited about 15 minutes...no progress ...aborted.

Second failed attempt...AntiX full. First,would not install Grub.No problem so proceeded.

Could not create user directory...attempted several times...... failed so aborted install again.

Happy New Year.
