Thanks anti, I'll take a look at changing themes & see what's in ~/.jwm.

Well I now have an installed version running from a pendrive on my netbook. __{{emoticon}}__
(As noted above, had to change 'demo' to my username for it to start up.)

Things necessary to get a decent amount of screen area :-

Copied (/)etc/jwm/jwmrc to /home/keith/.jwmrc then changed the 'tray' height to 20, & 'desktops' to width=2 height=1

Then when running Iceape, removed all the toolbars, & used 'File > Open Web Location' to surf the net.

As an aside, I tried it in my Advent 9112 (12" TFT dual core) laptop, but it seems the wifi driver was missing, (RT73.bin).
(Just thought I'd mention it, as AntiX 13 & MX-14 work straight OOTB on that machine.)

I gave it a try today on the old Dell Inspiron 8100, and boy does it run light.

I copied in mem and ps_mem.py and installed python, and mem says its only using 23.7 mb of memory used with X running. That's amazing. That's the very best I've ever seen with X running. My screen is only displaying 1024x768, but many o/s can't get the screen right on that machine.

To be honest, I like the looks of IceWM better than JWM, but maybe the looks of JWM could be improved.

I tried to run inxi -F but it has trouble with missing packages, and I couldn't add them because it couldn't find installation candidates.

The other problem I had was that I couldn't see how to install it to the hard drive. Perhaps I needed to select one of the persistence options when I booted?

Is 13.5 still a work in progress? I probably shouldn't spend time on it if not, I guess. Sorry, I don't know these things...

PS: I found the installer. Its /usr/local/bin/cli-installer from the looks of it. I will try it

PSS: Got it installed. Updated apt-get and installed synaptic, but synaptic won't run...

Get error message:

Code: Select all

process 2924: D-Bus library appears to be incorrectly set up; failed to read machine uuid: failed to open"/ etc/machine-id"; No such file or directory
See the manual page for dbus-uuidgen to correct this issue
sh:1: lsb_release not found
sh:1: lsb_release not found
PSS: I tried installing all of the packages recommended for synaptic, and now get a different error:

Code: Select all

** (synaptic:8786): WARNING **: Error retrieving accessibility bus address: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name orga11y.Bus was not provided by any .service files
PSS: I think i need to give up on it for the old Dell, becuase with the 3.11.5 Kernel, I can't use the sgfxi and Nvidia driver, so can't get full screen. I guess its beyond me why it works fine with Debian Jessie, but not this.
