Would not have available inxi (nor smxi) during a live session, eh?

I am using Antix 12,5 alpha 2 - base, 32 bit, on my Compaq Presario 14XL250, bought in year 2000, which has a Celeron 600MHz chip, 184M RAM + 8 RAM for the Video (64 original + 128 added), Trident Cyberblade video card, Chipset VIA PLE133.

Problem encountered:

applications > Internet > CENI doesn't work well, because I get a terminal screen with the sudo heading, where it is written “your screen is currently too small for this application”, which I have to resized for using it. However, when accessing CENI from control centre everything is fine. The reason might be the size of the display, 13.3 inch (TFT Active Matrix Display).

Suggestion:

I would suggest that SpaceFM would be more directly accessible, maybe with an icon on the toolbar or on the desktop, and would automatically pop out when you plug in an USB drive. It would be even better if you replace SpaceFM with Thunar

Hope it helps.

BTW, where is the application manager? How can I install new software?

Thanks!

antiX-base does not have synaptic.

You can install apps with apt-get or install synaptic and use that.

antiX will not come with Thunar. It will come with SpaceFM and Rox.

I've seen this behaviour on various (32 bit) antiX-12 systems. The following has consistently resolved the issue on all of them.

In an open ROXTerm:
Preferences-->Edit Current Profile
Size, Height=26 Rows (Allows Ceni to fit in window)
Font=Bitstream Vera Sans Mono 11 (makes it easier to read)

Thanks for the hint, Samk. It is already a few years I use AntiX on the very same laptop, and never had that problem before. I find such a behaviour quite strange now.

On my old machine I installed LibreOffice (as usual) which seems working fine, even if it is slower than with Antix 8.x or 11. My impression is Antix 12.5 base is heavier than versions 8.x and 11, despite having way less installed software. I wonder if it has to do with the new kernel.

XMMS doesn't play videos (I tried avi and MP4). Anyway, why not replacing it with Mplayer?

I cannot understand what is Zathura, and what is for. Maybe it doesn't work on my laptop.

I remember on Antix 11 there was a very nice and light pdf viewer (ghostscript?), and also a minimal browser embedded in Terminal. Was it necessary to remove them?

Watch out! On “applications > preferences” there is software listed twice (Gparted, driver wireless), while the very same software sometimes is listed twice, on “applications > preferences” and also on “applications > other”.

Are there workarounds for making spaceFM the main file manager? Sorry, but don't like ROX.

Anyway, again, it would be great if the given external-memory window would pop out as soon as one plugs a pen drive or a hard disk in, automatically mounting it and therefore making the inserted drive immediately available. Worked it not like that in AntiX 11? Can't remember now...

Thanks for the great job done so far!

I installed the 64bit version of the alpha2-release on a machine with AMD Athlon 4000+ and 2 GB RAM.
I faced several"works/works-not" situations. Sometime I had to boot the PC twice or more often to get the second (SATA) harddisk found, sometime the same thing with the ATI Radeon Card.
Or I had to send the command

Code: Select all

apt-get install .....
several times to get rid of the error message of an mmap error.

I replaced the kernel with the (official ?) 3.2 version from Debian Wheezy and it seems to work allright.
Guees this is a DMA problem of the first harddisk with the / file system or something with the memory allocation. I think the antiX kernel is just a bit to fast in the access to the RAM for my hardware combination (reasonable CPU with more-than-enough RAM and very old peripherals, especially harddisks)

Sounds kinda weird i never had this issue and I been using AntiX for a some time now but you do need usb-tray to see whats on your cdrom drive.Gamer edition will come with the latest version.

Running 12.5 on a HP Compaq laptop 6730s live on USB stick:
Mostly works (wifi, sound, touchpad) but I didn't get the correct screen resolution: 1024x768 instead of 1280x800. Currently installed on HD is a Mandriva 2010, with correct settings.

Any hint?

What is the problem with 12.5-full-alpha2-amd64? Incorrect intel driver? Looks like the vesa driver is used?

Base iso was the only available iso when I did this install logopus.

Quick Edit; Lagopus. I don't have Noveau driver cheat in my menu.lst and I think I did a sgfxi for intel (can't remember for sure)
