I have uploaded a 3.14.4 kernel (32 bit only at the moment) that should work on PII boxes. It does on my old Dell Latitude Cpt S500GT (year 2000) Celeron Coppermine. (Other 3.14 kernel builds failed to boot).

Hopefully this will work on PII boxes. The kernel is built for Debian Testing so if you gave a PII with antiX-13.2 running, enable the Debian testing repo as well as the antiX testing one.

I'll upload an iso for antiX-14 with this kernel if it sems to be good.

I'll give it a try on the JUNKBOX, and let you know tomorrow.

hmmmm,
kernel upgrades from you have installed and worked.
Not this one.
( p3 Kayak machine )

Well, the latest from licorix did not install either
Both would not completely boot.

Antix froze at libcrypt
Licorix froze looking for the root dev

I can wait

I cannot get it to load on my JUNKBOX PIII Coppermine 996 Mhz __{{emoticon}}__ __{{emoticon}}__ Will try again later.

Loaded on MSI laptop with no problems. I noticed weird RAID setting on bootup. I ain't got RAID.

I will wait for that Anti as I have a lot going on with Dave and Bitjam on this laptop.
I posted on where I got my 3.14.3 kernel from for this P3 IBM Laptop T23 model
in your 3.14.3 thread.

I did not read this thread till after I did the 3.14.3 kernel I posted about.

Yup. I got spacey too. Heck, it's only one number. I mean a 3 instead of a 4.

I can't get a boot with 3.14.4 on my Athlon XP; hangs before the"decompressing Linux" report -- headed in now to test on my Pentium II laptop.

Okay, 3.14.4 gets further on the Pentium II than on the Athlon XP -- like saying an airplane prototype got high enough to crash....

I got a start at booting, then a kernel panic (as I've gotten in previous 3.14.x versions on that machine). Are there cheat codes I should be attempting at the GRUB menu? I shouldn't need to worry about setting the Debian testing repos before booting, right? Those aren''t accessed until I use apt-get or something like Synaptic, as I understand it.

Edit: I still got a"suggested package" message during installation, pointing to linux-firmware-image-3.14.4-antix.a-486-smp -- i.e., the corresponding package to the one suggested for 3.14.3. I got no such suggestion for the linux-image-3.13-1-486 package, which boots on the PII (but not on the Athlon XP) -- related?

No suggestions? BTW, there was a typo above; the suggested package should be linux-firmware-image-3.14.4-antix.1-486-smp. Any suggestions why 3.14.3 and 3.14.4 kernel image packages want to suggest a related firmware package that doesn't exist?

Is there an antix documentation page which enumerates the antix kernel"differences, compared to stock debian kernel(s)" ?

Although inxi -F says I am using 311 MB of memory, without Iceweasel running it drops down to 167 MB. See screenhot below:

I'll tinker with my JUNKBOX and see what is happening there. My PIII Coppermine 996Mhz should load it, but it keeps complaining. I'll try downloading again 3.14.4 kernel.

I think that I already have this kernel running on at least one of my antiX instances; I know for sure that I have an antiX 3.14 kernel, at the very least. Next time I update one of my instances I'll be sure to check this out; I've had really good success with the overwhelming majority of the kernels with only one or two exceptions.

I have 3.14.1, 3.14.3, and 3.14.4 installed and running (on command) on my Core2Quad system. That's not the machine where I need the small footprint of anitX...
