I am running the latest Antix 13.2 full version - using rox jwm desktop manager
Question 1 How do you remove and add icons to the desktop, I seen a how to on this and it don't work when i try it.
Question 2 There are 70 processes loading on boot up, can I remove stuff i do not need to litghten up this system?
I also would want to know how to remove stuff I will never use, I have seen stuff like p2p file share program loading on boot up and other things I will never use... All I need from this machine is for it to boot up and run a browser, maybe a mail program, and instant messenger, everything else is not needed... Would I be better off installing another version of Antix for what I need rather then deleting stuff off of the full version??

if that really is all you want it to do, maybe you should try the 13.5 alpha2 jwm spin? it has a browser, and mail, but you need to install the messenger thing. It even boots!
maybe try it from an usb, or cd?

Or, yes you can manage what it does start up at boot, iIrc, antix controlcenter - system - startup services.

I did suggest antiX-base, but you didn't like it.
Anyhow, to remove icons *right click on it and choose Remove item.
To add, several ways. Here is the easiest. Go to /usr/share/applications in the rox-filer file manager and drag the .desktop file you want to the desktop.

Tried it but it won't boot the live cd, so they must have changed something in that version...rust collector wrote:if that really is all you want it to do, maybe you should try the 13.5 alpha2 jwm spin? it has a browser, and mail, but you need to install the messenger thing. It even boots!

jwm is in base. At live boot menu, F6 choose jwm-rox. It should carry over to installation.

Yup found it, install is at 96%, then I have to go back to my original post and change all the things in it like the other system, to get it working like the full version was working... then I guess I will come back and let you know how I made out, thanks again for all your assistance... I know I must be a royal pain in your butt, and I am sorry if i am... LOL __{{emoticon}}__anticapitalista wrote:jwm is in base. At live boot menu, F6 choose jwm-rox. if it is installed, or you have a persistent usb, it should work, yes.
If you really want/like wicd, just:

Well the base is missing alot of stuff I was used to seeing and using, also the base has 67 processes running and the full only had 70 processes, so I guess tomorrow I will go back to the full version and just hope I can figure out a way to remove stuff I don't need or want.... you guys need an add remove program like windows has or something to make this stuff easy....

Umm, what do you want, really? just browser, email, and instant messenger... or ???
Anyway, just turn the stuff you don't want to run at boot off, like I said in post 2 in this thread.
If you end up on a full install, you have synaptic, which can install/remove programs.
If you end up on base, you don't, but you can install it the same way as wicd

You can free up a lot, just by turning off startup stuff. then use ceni and not wicd, and use lighter apps.
don't worry too much about 70 running processes, they might be useful...
Start htop, and see what uses how much memory, and cpu. it might not be as bad as it seems
