I understand that MX linux uses lightdm. I understand that the problem does not exist under MX+lightdm.
Antix did not recently adopt use of SLiM. Antix has been using slim for the past 3+ years.
SLiM version is identical in antix14 and antix15, yes?
We're left wondering what (what else?) changed, in antix15 to introduce the problem.
What was the last known version of fcitx which worked in antix?

Not expecting an answer, just suggesting a line of investigation for troubleshooting.
I find debian has introduced no changes (no changelog) in the fcitx metapackage, nor subpackages, since Sept 2014.
fxitx shows few dependencies, and I don't see that any of those have changed versions either.
Compared to antix15, does MX have a different version of Xorg or xserver?
You mentioned that other input methods, not solely fcitx, are affected. That is probably a key detail.

To test"Does fcitx behave properly under antix15+lightdm?"
sudo apt install lightdm
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
Following logout or restart, you'll be entering desktop environment via lightdm instead of slim.
Bear in mind that under lightdm, other antix features will be broken...
(unable to use"desktop switcher" provided in the menu)
(autostarts, like conky etc, not applied until/unless you tweak your existing config(s))
(F1 chooser for custom desktop environments {icewm+rox, flux+spacefm, etc} absent from lightdm login screen)
...but you'll be able to test the behavior of fcitx.
After testing, to revert the changes:
sudo dpkg-reconfigure slim, followed by logout/restart, then
sudo apt purge lightdm
sudo apt purge lightdm-gtk-greeter
sudo lightdm-gobject-1-0

check the issues marked as"closed" 4 days ago. (I cannot read the language.) Maybe a fix has been found, but not yet packaged for debian.
