Hi. All
I am new to Linux and I need some help. I have installed Antix 8.2 on my old sony vaio laptop with pcmcia wireless card
chipset ACX 111 (Texas) which this version of Antix picked up. The card is configured to use WEP security and is working. However, my problem is that I am unable to connect to the internet. Furthermore, I am able to ping my router and also ip address of google but not by name ie

, doing research on various forums, it seem to suggest that I may have NameServer problem. This is where I am lost, any help to resolve this is welcomed.

Did you use Ceni to connect or WICD?
The reason I ask is I had the same issue on my wireless with 8.2 antiX when I connected with WICD.
I was able to go to Ceni and set the wireless up and it would connect to the internet. WICD would then correctly connect each time I booted.

Thanks for a quick responses. Yes, I am connected via WICD, however, I have now disconnected from that selected"Manage Network interfaces" from antiX Control Panel and tried to configure my card (which it see's nearby Access Points) but it is not starting. I have re-booted but no luck.

Did you try this part from the link oldhoghead posted?
Note: Under External Programs tab, the DHCP client default is set to Automatic, if you get an ip address, but cannot connect to the www, then return here and try dhclient.

Thanks guys, I am up and running with my wireless card, I can now connect and browse. This worked with"anticapitalista's" suggestion. Thanks again. BTW I tried the latest Antix 8.5 Live version proir to installing version 8.2, but it did not pickup my wireless card , whys that?. I would like to have version 8.5 installed because one reason I found was that the touchpad on my laptop was more stable.

Probably different modules in the new kernel, or drivers not included. You might still get it to work with 8.5 with some tweaking.
On the other hand, the new version (11) is soon to being released, so you might consider waiting till then and then trying it out.
