We need to get some idea of which windows managers and desktop environments users try out and maybe even use so we can automate the slim login and remaster/persistence programs better.

I've been hanging with xfce lately, but still use Icewm and Fluxbox a lot. Very interested in jwm and e17 though.

I use dwm with a black background (strictly no frills) for my work laptop. However, I had to download and build the version I'm using. The one that was included with antix was not working well. The standard commands were not working. This was fixed when I built it and installed it.

I don't know how many others are using dwm. If it turns out that not many others are using it, I would not object to leaving it out. I can always just d/l and build again.

The only other wm I use is fluxbox, which comes in handy with some java based apps that dwm may not handle well (e.g. gimp).

There seems to be a lot of buzz on various distros about awesome wm. I have not used it. Would it be well suited to the"goals/vision of/for antiX"?

Here in other (non antiX) systems, JWM and LXDE are used - they both get my vote + IceWM for antiX. Beyond these non of the others will be used. It would be good to have a simple means of removing all elements of the unwanted ones from antiX-Full.

I've used awesome a lot. It's a great wm and offers more tiling options than dwm. It's also more easily configurable, since you don't have to recompile everytime you make a change in your configuration (as is the case for dwm). On the downside, is lua based, but that's not too bad. I think it's a great wm and is anothe great choice in tiling wm.

On most of the machines here there are 3 window managers, icewm, fluxbox, lxde. On my one machine I have over 14 so to accommodate I have an entry in slim that loads simply the terminal, that way I can start and stop any window manager session I like without loging out and in. I also have made an entry for our laptops that starts a script that starts iceweasel and then sudo shutdown -h now when iceweasel is closed, as this is more confenient when you only wish to web surf.

Only use fluxbox here.

I started using Xfce, almost since my Day 1 in Linux.

I stick to icewm and pekwm.

Hi I have ben using icewm and xfce with gdm as my desktop manager. one change was made to the mepis startup skript made when downloading xfce by the Debian pool. as far as I can tell all that changed was the startup screen for xfce.

I cant beleve the old laptop is running agin! it is slow but workes for just about anything I need.

I agree Rusty. I do like Fluxbox too but iceWM is the best.
I have used openbox too but it would be my 3rd choice.
