It is not a hardware issue. It is repeatable. A fresh install works fine. Upgrading everything and restarting afterwards breaks wireless. The BIOS has no options for wireless.

I don't know what other info you want from the terminal. I think I said everything that's important.

It is an old machine for sure but it has become my main production machine. Therefore I can't reproduce the problem again just to troubleshoot it.

The workaround I have to use for now is to selectively upgrade packages using apt-get install --only-upgrade or Synaptic. I have a feeling it's the linux kernel update that's causing the problem. I don't know for sure. After install there are 60 different packages that need to be upgraded. I'll have to go through them individually to ensure they won't affect wireless in any way. At this point I don't care if eth0 breaks because I'm not going to use it.

I just want to report the issue and maybe see if anyone has a solution other than merely installing the firmware package, which didn't work in this case.

EDIT:

I just noticed from Synaptic that the installed version and the latest version of my linux-image and linux-headers, which is 4.4.10-antix.1-486-smp-1, are exactly the same. Yet it tells me it needs to be updated. Why?

That worked __{{emoticon}}__

My search-fu was insufficient to find that topic.

It would be nice if this sort of thing were automatic though.
