I have just tried tried the 7.2 live CD. My D-Link DWL-G650 WiFi card (pcCard) froze with one of the 2 LEDs on solid nd the other off solid.

The card did not show in the ifconfig listing, but iwconfig showed it:

ath0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:""
Mode: managed Channel 1:0 Access Point: Not - Associated
Retry min limit: 7 RTS thr: off Fragment thr: 2346B
Link Quality: 0 Signal Level: 0 Noise Level: 0

In 7.0, the card worked just fine. If no network was found, the 2 LEDs would alternately flash. If a network was found, it would associate, as inidcated by both LEDs flashing in unison.

I hesitate to install 7.2 until I can get it working from the live CD.

What happens if you open up a terminal, become root, and type:

Code: Select all

ifdown ath0
iwconfig ath0 ESSID"NameOfNetwork"
ifup ath0
dhclient ath0
Also, check the MEPIS Wiki on this chipset.

Thanks for replying.

It says"interface ath0 not configured"

This despite iwconfig seeing ath0 just fine.

(Sorry for the delay in responding).

Try booting with the mean cheatcode, and then set up your wifi. You could try ceni, wicd or mnetwork.

Adding the mean cheatcode seems to have helped. The card is not locking up and I can see it in ifconfig. Now having WPA issues and currently no open APs are in range.

Hopefully this will be simple to resolved.

Did the install of 7.2. My WiFi card (D-Link DWL-G650 PCMCIA card (Atheros based) works IF I boot with the card plugged in. However, if I plug it in after booting, the card still freezes.

I can lie with this inconvenience.
