Hello and compliments for a swift system. I wouldlike to connect two laptops, one netbook with antix, via wifi in a ad-hoc network, one of them, ubuntu 14.04, have a broadband connection that gives me internet access. In order to solve the problem I have downloaded network manager and transferred and would like to install in using terminal due to lack of internet.
If someone know how to set up a shared file and common printer in th network -I would be fine with that.
Two other small, important questions: how get batt indicator and change keyboard layout on the go? I use a swedish keyboard but live in Italy.
I did remove libreoffice and install oppenoffice in terminal using my low milage in ubuntu -went fine....

I'm not sure I understand why you downloaded network manager. I always use ceni, myself. Its easy and very memory efficient. We also don't know what version of antiX you have. I don't know exactly what you downloaded, either. It needs to be compatible with the system you are installing it onto. I'm guessing you can just click on it in rox-filer to get it to install.
It sounds to me like you are looking for a samba share? If you know what program you plan to use, it might be easier if people reading know, too.
I suggest you start with running the inxi command at the end of my signature in a terminal session and copy paste the output to a file on a flashdrive and paste it into a reply here. That will tell the gurus about your computer and what is installed and working.

Tom,
So, you have a Ubuntu 14.04 machine connected to the internet via cable modem or dsl and you don't have a wifi router, so you want to use the ubuntu machine in place of a wifi router?
Can you connect to the ubuntu machine and use the wifi with your phone?
If you can, there is no reason antiX can't connect to it easily. Just go to the network tab in the control center and try connecting to it. If your wifi adapter on the antiX machine is one that already there, that's about all there is to that.
If your printer is on that same network, I'd think you should be able to see it at that point.
I have a wifi router. It cost me $10 shipped off ebay. I have some machines hard wired to it, and other machines connect via wifi. Ubuntu was too difficult for me. As for linux I'm no expert either.

sorry about that old shaps. I guess does pistons arnt running as low revs as they should during frustration.
Problem resolved due to changes that are described in the article I copied in. I have internet now in antix via the ubuntu that has internet via usb cable and mobile.
Now I will get on with the batt indicator, changing keyboard layout and sharing files / print from antix via ad-hoc network. I did find something in Puppy 431 and I am sure you guys have thought about it as well.
Yes, I did miss youtube videos. Nicely organized! My compliments!

Ummmm, battery...
in ~/.icewm/preferences uncomment the line for it and change to a 1 if need be
TaskBarShowAPMStatus=1 # 0/1
Of course that assumes you are using IceWM which is the default desktop. You never showed us the inxi output, so we can't tell. If you changed to a different desktop, the above fix won't work.

You still didn't say what version of antiX you have.
If its version 13.2 for keyboard layout its in the control center, session tab, change keyboard layout... But I don't see Swedish or Italian there...
I never use keyboard layouts, so I'm no expert there. Perhaps someone else knows a way... Maybe search debian to see how its done there. antiX 13.2 is based on debian wheezy 7.2, so maybe however its done there will work here, too.
There is an old post by anti on it that might help...

As for your ad-hoc thing, it seems to me that you should be setting up the ubuntu box to do that and the antix box should be accessing it, since if I understand correctly its the ubuntu box thats connected to the internet. And you never told us how the printer is setup. These days a printer connected via wifi is normal, but mayber you have some older setup you didn't tell us about?

ps: if you notice there, he has troubles initially because he has multiple programs trying to control the wifi at the same time tripping over each other. I would wait and not try that network manager stuff unless the built in wifi stuff can't do what you need, in which case its over my head, but my guess would be to uninstall the other wifi program so they don't conflict.
