I have two problems with wicd 1.70 on antix 8.5 (icewm with a wirelss usb adaptor

I cant open the scripts window. clicking it prompts for password and i enter it, then nothing.
I could in antix 8.2, not sure which wide i wa using. I could add connect and disconect scripts. I want to mount a location with cifs on connect and unmount it on disconnect. The scripts i have worked in 8.2.

Also wicd will not disconnect, it goes into a"stuck" state saying"disconnecting active connections" but never disconnects. Killing the client dosnt help as when I restart the client it wont connect, I have to reboot.
I have changed the setings from dhcp to static, but it will not hange to static settings, it sticks to dchp.

I think it is the bug reported here:

Well, if Ceni or Rutilt aint yor cup of tea. I would download and install a older version of Wicd from

and lock it in synaptic package manager till bug is fixed for 1.7.0

Older versions can be got from

Thanks. I might give that a try.

Ceni works fine. But it can't switch networks as quickly, (at least when wicd is working.)

I also like the signal strength meter. I could always use another or just conky.

What I realy want to have is the scripts. Wicd starts before X and launch a script that can auto mount via cifs a windows drive on another machine so I have access even if X fails. It can also unmount on disconnect so I don't get a stall when rebooting about cifs mounts hanging around.

Can ceni or runit launch scripts on connect and disconnectg? I didnt see a way.

Unfortunately I don't know off the top of my head. Having my own problems right now with my ISP giving me Hissy Fits and randomly dropping connection. Lots of static in my lines lately since the last storm here. Been ongoing for a week now. Limits my search ability it does.

Ok. Connection is a little better. take a look at this old Ubuntu thread for rutilt

I have had bad experiences with antix 8.2 and 8.5 using the debian testing repositories.

This installation of antix 8.5 had everything set to stable. Stable was giving me a worse experience.

So last night I changed every thing to testing and upgraded.

Wicd upgraded, (thought it still says 1.7.0). At first the upgrade was giving an error message about"demo" user bit exsisting. I added a user"demo" to the system and it was able to update.

Now I can disconnect or reconnect at will. It will change from dynamic to static ip.

I think the problem I was having with the scripts window was/is that I have to run wicd-client as root before the script window will appear.

So all is well now. Thanks for your input.

@dcbevins: Regarding the error message about"demo". I found that a few months ago. I did not realize that was still causing a problem, but apparently it is. I am also not sure if that is an antiX packaging issue or a wicd issue, but the fact is that if I created a demo user account on my installed system, then wicd worked (and works) perfectly.

Like rokytnji, though, when I do run wirelessly, I frequently just use ceni. It is pretty fast and flexible, and I have had no reliability issues with it at all.

Thanks for the infor like ceni, it just works. But I really like the connect and disconnect ability of wicd has me hooked as I use it to mount cifs on a windows machine with all my media. There might be a way to do this with ceni, but it works now,.
