[ 788.406338] ieee80211 phy5: Atheros AR9287 Rev:2
I've tried compat wireless, but that made the kernel messed up, I reboot then the screen is blank and I can't log in or anything..

So I reinstalled kernel 3.8.2 and now everything is okay, but I need to know how to install the driver, I really need to get this wi-fi working.

Thanks in advance.

Did you try re-installing the driver.
apt-get update
apt-get install firmware-atheros

anti, where to paste the .fw file? can u give me a directory? I'm using kernel 3.8.3.

Thanks man.

EDT: OK, this is weird, I've two wireless usb, both didn't work, but then I installed network-manager* and suddenly the TP-link turned on the green light, which wasn't turning ON before.

However, tp-link just doesn't find any wifi, and the belkin does, works perfectly.

Basically the green light was suppous to blink, but it's just on.. never blinks while scanning for networks.

The router is right behind the laptop.

I will try now to reboot and see if it fixes or something..

here's the output :

Umm, isn't ath9k an atheros? I dunno, but has htc got anyhthing to do with this?
Is that driver for a htc phone (with an atheros), and not a computer?

Thanks but I've no idea on how to install driver's.

I even tried but there's no driver for linux in the official website, so I don't wanna do anything wrong.

Well, as far as I can see, in my searches, you have the right driver for the stick, so I would guess it has something to do with turning wlan1 on (up)?

What do you use to connect? wicd, ceni, or???

You mean like sudo ifconfig wlan1 up ?

EDT: Didn't work.

I use wicd, but dude, check this out:

Code: Select all

$ sudo iwlist wlan1 scan
wlan1 No scan results

But in wicd preferences, is wlan1 there? I usually have to add wlan0, so I would guess wlan1 needs to be added as well?
Maybe try ceni, just to see if wlan1 is there?

Yes I've wlan1 in wicd preferences.

I will try ceni but I highly doubt that it will work because I've tried nm-applet as well.

EDT: Ok I've tried ceni and it said - no values -

and wlan0 works fine. but wlan0 always worked fine.

Ok guys I finally got it working with the help of this great guy ---> PaulFertser

So all I had to do was install 2 patchs
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"https://dev.openwrt.org/browser/trunk/package/mac80211/patches/"
linktext was:"https://dev.openwrt.org/browser/trunk/p ... 1/patches/"
====================================

(I downloaded the ones which had *regd*)

Then I went to compat wireless website and downloaded the latest(not stable, the next version)

cd compat-wireless-whatever/drivers/net/wireless/ath/
patch -Np5 -i 403-ath_regd_optional.patch (and the same of the other's)

then I ./scripts/driver-select ath9k

make
sudo make install

and it's done __{{emoticon}}__

PS. The reason I used driver-select is because the nvidia(bumblebee) got messed up after installing compat wireless, but now I've got everything working GREAT.
