I haven't found any hints, which method is preferred in antix to install apps. Usually I use apt-get, but yesterday it didn't work to install the gutenprint-driver because there are missing dependencies. Then I tried synaptic and all works very well.

I'm not sure there's a preferred method. Like you, I try apt-get and when that does not work, I try synaptic since it's usually better at finding dependencies. I guess my rule of thumb is: whatever works.

Maybe someone else will have more of an answer (or an opinion) for you.

Best regards,

I usually find Synaptic more convenient for installing or removing apps. BUT, there are some packages that have an interactive installer, which, unfortunately, Synaptic can not accomodate. (It was the Java runtime environment.)

There is no preferred tool for installing in antiX when using the default repos.
However, if you are using the sid, with or without the sidux repos, then I would suggest users use for dist-upgrades, either apt-get from the command line or aptitude, but keep to one.

For installing individual apps, synaptic should be ok.

IMHO I prefer synaptic. it has always been a matter of simplicity for me.
I do have a question....if the repostitories are kept as"testing" instead of"stable" or"lenny" does that result in a"rolling release"? Linux rocks!!

Rebel,

yes it does. But, be careful when upgrading as Testing might/will get a little bit volatile. At the moment all is fine.
