I need a web browser that will enable me to scroll smoothly and quickly through my Facebook timeline/news feed. I have tried all of the ones included in the metapackage installer.
The best one is Chromium, however I would rather not use a browser not associated with Google (big brother).
Opera also did a good job, but I don't trust a proprietary browser.
Palemoon did a fair job.
The rest either did a poor job or were not usable on Facebook.
I assume the browsers included in the metapackage installer were chosen for good reasons, so I am reluctant to use any others. Or would it be fine to use others?
Any recommendations? My only requirement is that I need to have easily accessible bookmarks

I have no problem with firefox on my facebook account. But I have not entered facebook on my low powered machines yet.
Just my horse powered gear like this.
So I cannot recommend something yet till I boot up one of my single core atom netbooks.
I do run SeaMonkey like Anti suggested on my low spec challenged gear.
As well as Qupzilla or

But Like I said. I have not entered my facebook account yet with that gear. My atom netbooks have 2 gig of ram in them.
But the cpu is atom N270.
Edit: Just logged into my facebook account with QTWeb browser. If you download it. Make sure the file is excutable by checking properties in rox filer. I launch from /home/username goes here/QtWeb or just left click it in rox file manager.
Typing
will laiunch it from inside a terminal also. I already know it is now a unsupported browser. But I deal with what is available sometimes.
My ram usage is about 390MB or so. With Icewm and Conky going.

plenty scrolling-related adjustable firefox preferences exist
and several extensions (to spare you from wading through about:config details?) are available to tweak those
for instance:

linktext was:"https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... scrolling/"

seems scrolling in firefox is a common complaint.

Type about:config in the URL and filter general.smoothScroll.mouseWheel.durationMaxMS change the value as 1000 and try it.
If, it doesn't work try this
Type about:config in the URL and filter mousewheel.enable_pixel_scrolling and change the value as false

On QTWeb I see it doesn't have java support. Any idea if/what there is out there that won't work as a result?
Anoyher issue for me is userids/passwords. I seem to get more and more, and can't remember them because what one site allows, others don't allow, and so its almost hopeless. I'm looking for a way to manage and transfer these between browsers

No. But I see no java plugin support as a kind of plus. Facebook did not seem to mind me using it.

I ve been using SlimJet for almost 2 months and i m happy with the about 140MB RAM load when i run it without any other programs on Antix,wt Space-Icewm ,and the ease of transition from firefox that was my last favorite.
