.my pc has 256 mb ram ,the cpu is pentium 3 at 667 mhz.
which was why I asked for a inxi -F report. I need graphics chip and driver. Swap space. Etc........

Which inxi -F supplies . Yes, Smplayer plays just fine for me. Not sure what you mean by streamlight though. But my oldest laptop computer is a IBM T23 with Pentium 3 and 1 gig of ram. You are asking for a lot out of your specs on today’s internet. Especially playing videos. I would download videos with something like cclive or youtube-dl and watch via command line in mplayer or mpv with your specs.

Code: Select all

harry@biker:~
$ apt-cache policy youtube-dl
youtube-dl:
  Installed: 2014.08.05-1+deb8u1
  Candidate: 2014.08.05-1+deb8u1
  Version table:
 *** 2014.08.05-1+deb8u1 0
        500 http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
harry@biker:~
$ apt-cache policy mpv
mpv:
  Installed: 0.7.2-1
  Candidate: 0.7.2-1
  Version table:
 *** 0.7.2-1 0
        500 http://antix.daveserver.info/jessie/ jessie/main i386 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     0.6.2-2 0
        500 http://ftp.ca.debian.org/debian/ jessie/main i386 Packages

I'll bow out and let others chime in on this thread.

In addition to the the requested report (inxi -F), you might find it helpful to have a look at both the online antiX-FAQ and introductory video for Streamlight. Both describe its main purpose and usage.
hwdform wrote:My pc is too old...
When Streamlight is used as intended on this ancient laptop from approx 1997 (CPU=single core Celeron 1295MHz, RAM=384MB)
streaming videos having a resolution of 360p play with:
CPU usage less than 50%
RAM usage less than 110MB in total (Streamlight + OS)
Not too shabby for something manufactured almost 20 years ago.

Hints,
360p is a good general purpose resolution for older kit.
Lower resolutions will reduce system resource usage even further.
Try dragging the corner of the playing video window. The video expands to fill the larger window while retaining the same resolution. The result is a larger on screen video size without an increase in CPU and RAM demand.

An older kernel may be better suited to kit of this age. Leaving that aside because it probably is a secondary matter...

When using Streamlight as described in the links referenced in the previous post in this thread, does the following video play OK?

For the purpose of the test, stream using a resolution of 360p or lower.
