I will be out on a cyber-walkabout for a couple of days.
Downloaded and am intrigued by PCLinuxOS's"midi" distro. Since I buggered things up so badly installing Gnome and must reinstall antiX anyway, thought I'd give midi a whirl.
From running live CD it is a good news / bad news sort of thing.
Good news: Very slick menus, has (to borrow a Coast Guard expression) its poop in one sock.
Bad news: It is still pre-release [0.x version] and some strange stuff happens. A for instance -- even though it is running 800x600, the config GUI stuff is still 1024x size, so I can't see 1/3 of it.
Anti: Might want to download and review to get some ideas for the next release.
That being said, it will be a brief walkabout then will reload antiX.

Does it use Gnome?
If it does, I won't touch it with a barge-pole __{{emoticon}}__

Did discover a few apps that I want to add to my antiX suite, however.
Fluxbox. And it has already been tested/explored, uninstalled, and antiX is back on the computer. It was a very brief walkabout.anticapitalista wrote:Does it use Gnome?

Actually, I knew it was fluxbox. I was just teasing __{{emoticon}}__
I looked at the list of apps, many are the same as antiX, some different some new.
Which apps are you going to add?

For"testing purposes only" -- thundar, emelfm, and net_applet (which might not be available for debian). There were some other goodies, like a really strange & huge Dali-ish digital clock on the desktop. I also liked some of their default setup choices on Fluxbox but can't tell you off the top of my head what they were.anticapitalista wrote:

Tinyflux 1.0 has a very nice Wifi monitor built into the fluxbox information bar - I haven't had time to work out what it is, but It's cool.

It is called network_applet -- didn't find it in the network repositories.Craigus wrote:Tinyflux 1.0 has a very nice Wifi monitor built into the fluxbox information bar - I haven't had time to work out what it is, but It's cool.

You can edit the .conkyrc file to show wifi information.

I've tried both of them. I do like the alternative menu layouts, but I like what wolvix did with fluxbox much better. Also, wolvix uses xfce and fluxbox and while fluxbox has a different look to it, they complement each other very well. I tried wolvix and the pclos fluxboxes on various machines and they just can't match the hardware detection of antix. Anyway, the pclos fluxbox distros look really nice, but antix still has them beat. Want to see how far you can take fluxbox? Look at wolvix (you can just get the cub edition since you probably don't need the extra stuff in hunter anyway).
