Installed VLC via Synaptic and immediatly afterword Synaptice fails to start, stays broken afterword. I had a lot of things i wanted to do differently anyway so i did a fresh install afterword.

Asunder always locks up-this may be hardware(Compaq 2108US AMD 2800XP) as Asunder locks up in Puppy and other distros.

Other that those so far 13.1 runs great, I replaced asunder with XFburn and added RipperX and Clementine and removed Gogles(Just preference).

Does synaptic work if you type
sudo synaptic
into the terminal?

I've just replicated your problem on my other box, which is the same as I had on this one last week __{{emoticon}}__

Gnome keep changing GTK things, so if it happens again, go to control centre and change to a Mediterranean theme, and you might, as I did, have to do it for root too.

rokytnji had the problem here

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/bugs-t4379-15.html"
linktext was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/bugs-t4379-15.html"
====================================

and I did here

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/bugs-t4379-30.html"
linktext was:"antix.freeforu ms.org/bugs-t4379-30.html"
====================================

And Dave explains just after that how to change root's theme so synaptic works.

To be honest I thought you'd say the terminal wasn't working either. I always used to use sux but su and sudo seems to work too.
