Now Debian Lenny has been released, antiX users need to make one small change to the /etc/apt/sources.list file

Change deb
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.debian-multimedia.org"
linktext was:"http://www.debian-multimedia.org"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false etch main
to
deb

url was:"http://www.debian-multimedia.org"
linktext was:"http://www.debian-multimedia.org"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false stable main

If you want antiX-M8 to be ultra stable, using the new Debian Stable repos (now called Lenny),
then comment out all Testing repos and change this line
deb
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://security.debian.org/"
linktext was:"http://security.debian.org/"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false testing/updates main contrib non-free
to

Anti:

Thanks for the warning and what to do abou it. Since I'm using my laptop for a rather large project I need to keep it stable. I switched off all the testing repo's like you suggested. I noticed I have one sidux repo:

deb
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://sidux.com/debian/"
linktext was:"http://sidux.com/debian/"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false sid main contrib non-free firmware fix.main fix.contrib fix.non-free

Is that ok or should I rem that out too?

thanks

Thank you. Done that and just reloaded and updated. I think everything still works fine.

I saw that Debian 5 was released when I got home today. I had planned to run the upgrader script yesterday (Sat), so I would catch it all before the Debian release, but saved it for today instead. __{{emoticon}}__ Which repos do I need now to run with the upgrader script? Should I just wait a couple of days or go ahead now? Thanks!

This is as far as I get with the upgrader script. I have tried it with all the repos and with only the stable repos plus sidux. What should I do next? Thanks!

Code: Select all

root@DellLatitude:/home/laptop# sh antiX-upgrader2.sh
Only use this script if you are upgrading
antiX-M7.5 or later to antiX-M8

MAKE SURE you add the MEPIS 8 repo

deb ftp://ftp.mepis.com/mepis/ mepis-8.0 main

to /etc/apt/sources.list before running this script

Are you ready to upgrade antiX, laptop ? [y|n]y
Hope it works ;-)
antiX-upgrader2.sh: line 207: `meta-installer_install': not a valid identifier
root@DellLatitude:/home/laptop#
This is my sources.list from the last try:

Code: Select all

# See sources.list(5) for more information

#Mepis8
deb ftp://ftp.mepis.com/mepis/ mepis-8.0 main

# Debian
deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free
# deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ testing main contrib non-free
deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free
# deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ stable main contrib non-free

# mplayer

# deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org/ testing main

# wicd

mariel use the repos you have, but don't enable the sidux ones.

I just installed antiX-M7.5 in Virtualbox and ran the script with the stable repos and it worked ok.

Try downloading the script again. Maybe something got corrupted somewhere.

BTW, a fresh install of antiX-M7.5 to upgrade to M8 downloads 230MB!

Edit: Run the script as ./antiX-upgrader2.sh

Thanks, anti! The upgrade went well! (I didn't realize there was a difference between"sh" and"./" for running scripts.)

I just had to edit .xinitrc to get fluxbox back on boot and will edit the fluxbox menu later. It looks like everything else is the way I had it. The upgrader script is really a wonderful feature, anti. It really does make the upgrade easy if a person doesn't want to do the whole reinstall. I love it!

@OU812: icewm looks great; I'll check out the new themes later.

Hi,

After applying the changes and reloading I searched for cheetah but it was not found. Then I resetted my sources.lst to the orignal one and the cheetah was found, so I could install. But why this difference?

Some apps have been moved from Etch (old stable) to somthing else and may no longer be in the ne stable repo.
I noticed the same with sbackup. It was in Etch, is not in Stable, nor Testing, but is in Sid.

For a week or so the repos will be a bit volatile, but will settle down and apps will eventually drift into Testing and much later into Stable.

mariel77, glad the upgrade worked well.

I'll let you into a secret. It was a good job that you couldn't get the script to work and posted here for help, as there was a problem with one app in the script (sbackup) that couldn't be downloaded. I had to fix the script so it would run properly and you get sbackup too (in control centre for backup/restore).

So without your post. other users may have been in a spot of trouble!

I would imagine that a lot of apps that did not make it to a final Lenny/stable will be in Squeeze/testing when things get rolling again.

The ./ just mean"in the present directory". The directory you d/l the script to was probably /home..... which mean if you just call the script as a command it won't be found like anything in /bin or /sbin etc. So the ./ tells it to look in the place your are when you run it.
