In konqueror you can install mplayerthumbs for video previews. Are there equivalents to this for other file managers?

I'm not exactly sure which window manager i'm using (whatever the default is for Antix 8.5 rc3), but i'm happy to keep it, and have two file managers available to me ROX-filer and PCman.

Stuart:
There are 2 windows managers available in Antix. Icewm (default) and fluxbox. You can choose among them at log in by pressing F1. You can also add others, if you want to.

Using Rox-filer, I don't see a mplayer thumb for video. Perhaps that's somethint that can be configured in the settings. Not really sure. I hope some one else has the answer for you.

Just wondering. I do that alot. Cant Stuart in Rox file Manager set a run action for video files and tell Rox to make this the default run action for these kind of files, By going to /usr/bin and dragging and dropping mplayer or whatever into the run action box. Like I said. Just Wondering.

I already get the option to open with smplayer. I'm not trying to achieve this, however, I want to set the icons as image stills from the movies.

Do you mean right click on empty space in Rox File Manager and Go to Display and select View as Thumbnails?

This only works with .jpgs unfortunately. __{{emoticon}}__

Sorry Stuart. I am not the sharpest nail in the board here. Just a Linux using Biker. Hopefully maybe Anti or one of the other more proficient members will give you a hand. I guess I just get a d for effort.

The ROX settings are found by right-clicking its background and choosing 'Options'. I'm not in antiX now so I can't say if there is a video thumbs one.

Just mentioning, there are some apps that make ROX-Desktop, maybe there's one that has this feature?

I tried secipolla's suggestion. Right click on a rox window background, choose options>thumbnails>video thumbnails, and a window pops up where you can click video thumbnails. When I did that, a window popped up saying:

This program (

linktext was:"http://www.kerofin.demon.co.uk/2005/int ... oThumbnail"

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false) cannot be run, as the 0launch command is not available. It can be downloaded from here:

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false

so, a possible solution might be to install whatever rox is looking for.

I hope this helps.

I'm on the right track with this, but yet to resolve this issue. I followed your link (
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://0install.net/injector.html"
linktext was:"http://0install.net/injector.html"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false), and ran apt-get install zeroinstall-injector as directed. Subsequently clicking the 'video thumbnails' in Rox-filer executed 0launch, and here I installed ROX-filer2 ver 2.0.6. Now I am able to run the Videothumbnail program, but Rox-filler throws up a dialogue box when I open it up:

Code: Select all

This program needs ROX-Lib2 (version 2.0.4) to run.
I tried all of these places:

/home/stuart/lib
/usr/local/lib
/usr/lib

ROX-Lib2 is available from:
http://rox.sourceforge.net
I checked at these paths, and have ROX-Lib2 here:

Code: Select all

stuart@antiX1:/usr/local/lib/ROX-Lib2$ ls
AppInfo.xml AppRun Help MakeDist Messages python tests
No libraries, however, which surprised me. If I go to the MOVIES directory Videothumbnail tries to do its stuff, and throws up the 'ROX-Lib2 error' once more.

p.s. and switching to ver 2.0.4 makes no difference (I was running out of ideas __{{emoticon}}__ )

Brain block!

I have to run MakeDist to create the libs.

Code: Select all

stuart@antiX1:/usr/local/lib/ROX-Lib2$ sudo ./MakeDist
[sudo] password for stuart:
Create rox-lib-2.0.2 (31-Jul-2005) (2.0.2)?y
cvs release: No CVSROOT specified! Please use the `-d' option
cvs [release aborted]: or set the CVSROOT environment variable.
cvs tag: No CVSROOT specified! Please use the `-d' option
cvs [tag aborted]: or set the CVSROOT environment variable.
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File"/usr/local/lib/ROX-Lib2/MakeDist", line 42, in <module>
    os.mkdir(dir)
OSError: [Errno 17] File exists: 'rox-lib-2.0.2'
stuart@antiX1:/usr/local/lib/ROX-Lib2$
All I get is a 'null' gunzip file at $HOME and en empty directory rox-lib-2.0.2. I imagine the script - when executed as intended - creates the libs and copies them to one of the aforementioned locations. I need to install some build tools or something? I'm a total noob to Debian based distros -- sorry. __{{emoticon}}__

Stuart, I'm even more a noob than you when it comes to the command line.
I don't know if some other distro is more 'at home' with ROX-Desktop and really couldn't say anything about how Debian's implementation of it may interfere with ROX's own way of working.
Besides that I can't get online with antiX because I'm on dial-up lately so I can't search for some clue.

Finally, I'm posting to say that you could try to contact ROX's developer. This seems to be something simple but we just need someone who knows what to do.

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false looks like it's simple to install it. Debian's ROX-Filer's package comes bundled with the Wallpaper app (which manages the background in ROX-Desktop) and it's just an application directory (a directory that launches an application when opened from ROX), if I remember well located in ~/Rox/Wallpaper. Maybe you could download the video thumbs app, put it in ~/Rox, launch it and follow the instructions on the link above.

Got it!

I downloaded the gunzip ver of 2.0.6 ROX-lib2 from sourceforge and copied it to /usr/local/lib. The old version, though numbered 2.0.6, showed as 2.0.2 when AppRun was executed. I was off on a tangent with the 'MakeDist' thing.

Thanks for your help secipolla (and plvera!)

And no worries rokytnji __{{emoticon}}__

Glad you've done it (the Video Thumbnails app says it needs ROX-Lib 2.0.4 or later). I'll try to install it myself too.
