Hello there,

It's no great deal to me, but it puzzles me nevertheless. On boot I get the message: Usplash: no usable theme found for 1024x768. It seems that Usplash is installed in Antix M8, as is Usplash-theme-debian, but it's not functioning yet on my machine. What could it be? I've looked around in Usplash manuals and tried to update and to install another theme, but that didn't change anything.

Greetings!

Hans

Try lowering the resolution to 800x600. In synaptic you will find an app called startupmanager, this will help set it all up for you and it does work.

I have startupmanager installed through synaptic, but I can't get it to work properly. When I give the command startupmanager, for instance in a terminal, something flashes on my screen and then I see a lot of extra options in my GRUB menu.lst. And that's it. Maybe I give the wrong commands, but I don't see the screens that are supposed to appear according to the startupmanager-website.

I'm going on with my search.

I like these puzzles, especially when I'm able to solve them.
We'll see.

Greetings again!

Here is another part of the puzzle.

If you install antiX without intrd you don't get the usplash 'problem' in any boot menu options.
If you install with initrd, but choose the third option in the menu, you don't get the usplash 'problem'

Are you calling startupmanager as root? You must be root to use it.

Thanks for the replies. About startup-manager: yes, I have tried to use is as root. I have seen posts in the mepislovers forum describing similar problems with the manager, without a solution yet.

Anti's reaction makes clear to me why I get the messages at boot.

Thanks!

About Usplash. I didn't get it to work in Antix 7.5, and now in Antix 8 it is installed, but not working on my computer. In Antix 7.5, I sought for a suitable splashsscreen. Splashy didn't work either, but fbsplash worked flawlessly. I can reccomend it to anyone seeking for a splashsscreen, when other alternatives aren't working.

With regards,

Hans
