Dude, try using pcmanfm, after installing edit ~/.config/libfm/libfm.conf and change show_internal_volumes to 1.

After that install this: policykit-1

Reboot. Now when I plug the usb it pop's up a window asking if I want to open it in folder, besides... pcmanfm is very fast.
