Hey all,

quite regularly I get an error message on the command line either when unplugging a USB drive that I have (correctly I assume) unmounted via 'unmount /media/DEVICE' or as has just happened resetting my iPod, since it does not get it, that it has been hooked up to a computer. FYI: The latter behaviour is quite frequent with Apple's iPod, my previous one had the same issues.

The error message I got a few minutes ago read like this, the others should had been similiar:

Code: Select all

The annoying thing is that I have to reboot the system before my USB ports are working again. After the error message they are deactivated, and I cannot get them up and running again.

Any thoughts on that? Am I doing something wrong here?

AntiX 11 is running on an IBM T21 notebook.

Here is the output for lspci -vv:

Me, Not being a Ipod owner. I have a generic rca mp3 player that works real good in linux with mp3s. I don't get usb ports disabled by anything I disconnect via usb. On my IBM T23. I use a cheapo pcmcia usb/firewire card OK.

Maybe something in bios is causing this for you as far as settings go. Damn if I know what it is though. Or maybe Apple Ipod is causing some kind of feedback ( damn if I know that either).

Are all other usb devices working OK like pendrives?

No, this is not an Ipod issue only. This happens also from time to time when unplugging other USB devices. Never encountered a similiar problem with MacPup or Slitaz, but I hadn't used them long enough to be able to confidently point the finger at AntiX. It might arguably be the BIOS's fault, but there nothing I can do there. The strange thing is that this problem does not come up everytime I unplug a device, only sometimes. Maybe the next time this happens I should carefully pay attention to what I was doing at the moment, as well have a closer look into /var/syslog and dmesg.

Thanks for the response,
