I just installed Debian 7.8 stable lxde edition. So far it works fine. The kernel is the old 3.2 series.
Do I need to upgrade it to a newer kernel or should I just leave it as is?
My laptop is a HP dv6 which is about 5 years old.
If I want to be able to mount my nexus 7 android device I understand I have to install mtp?
Thanks!
upgrading the Debian kernel

with kernels, I go by the adage, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
You'll need mtp in some fashion to mount current android devices. some older devices had a mode that allowed the device to mount as a usb drive. there is usually a notification on the device when you plug in the usb to a pc to select a mode.

Thanks!! I installed mtp-tools and see if that works. Not sure if I have to create a mount point and then update my fstab file.
