may help you.

Essentially the answer is that there is no easy way to convert MX14 to MX15.

However, MX14 is still supported, and if you really want MX15, a re-install is not a lengthy process.

Thanks Chris,
MX14 is fine and I have no issues with it, however I installed mx15 for my cousin and I did like a few things that mx 15 had that mx14 did not have ...
Maybe there is a way to get those things I like installed in mx14? If so that would be great...
I like when you choose desktop setting in mx15 that you can do more with it then the mx14 settings, I found it was very easy to point to a wallpaper folder in mx15 and rotate desktop wallpaper every 30 minutes, I tried in mx14 to do the same and failed to get it working...

Seems unlikely to work to me, b/c new libraries and other dependencies are often involved.

Another possibility: this command from kmathern will give you a file in your /Home folder with a list of all installed applications except kernels and their headers:

Code: Select all

$ dpkg -l | awk '/^ii/{ print $2 }' | grep -v -e ^lib -e -dev$ -e linux-image -e linux-headers | awk '{print $1,"install"}' > apps_installed.txt
It's not bad work to go through it (using your MX-14 menu as a guide when necessary) to produce a list of what you want to reinstall. Then you can simply paste that into a root terminal to reinstall after MX-15 is up:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install <copied and pasted from your list>

My only problem is the age of the laptop makes it rough to get things done, the laptop does not boot from usb sticks, and all it has is a cdrom drive to boot from... mx-15 is no longer able to fit on a cdrom since is it over a gig in size, where mx14 fits on a cdrom, that is why I was hoping you could upgrade to mx-15 online... __{{emoticon}}__

what you need is plop boot manager, which is what I use to boot usb sticks on machines that don't support usb boot. Here's a link.

the zip file contains a iso image that you can burn to cd (4.7mb, small) or you can use a .img for a floppy disk (I actually use a floppy image on my old sony laptop).

Well I have failed twice now, for some reason both yumi and universal from pendrive linux have both failed me, i choose Antix in the list and go to the folder where mx-14 and 15 are located, and it can not find them... I tried manually inserting the iso names, but they refuse to boot... Any clues how to get antix mx-15 onto a usb stick using windows 7???

Why not use your MX14 machine to create the USB?

I can't since i wiped it out yesterday, besides I always make my linux usb chips in windows...
for some reason antix just won't work... I tried 4 different pen drive installers now all get the same error...
the ubuntu based distros all work on usb only antix is failing, because the installers are not finding the mx-15 and 14 iso's to be valid antix filenames...

use rufus, as the mx-15 instructions page says.

universal and yumi (and unetbootin for windows for that matter) do not support the version of syslinux on mx-15 and the coming antiX 16. rufus does, and is a much better app.

from the download page

2. If you want to create a USB on a Windows base, we suggest you use Rufus, which supports our bootloader.

Rufus in iso mode works somewhat, I get to the first screen where i can choose pae or non pae for mx-15 live , however after i choose pae and or non pae and enter it loads the kernel and locks...
I made in rufus using iso mode and it said it had to download files and such which i let it download..
I am now trying to redo in the other mode called DD will let you know if that works or not...
