Greetings.
I have a question. I read that when debian base changes every 2-3 year a new anti-x fresh install should be done.
Is it neccessary? Why can someone change the etc/apt/sources.list adding the new repos instead formating and reinstall the
entire os again?
It would be better.

It depends. On whether you are running stable or testing. Even then. All things are possible. Depending on a users skill set.
example mine
posted will help you in this thread so members can see what you are running. When getting the forbidden when trying to post the above readout.
Remove all instances of / in front of etc in the readout like I did to show mine.
Edit: ahhh. I see you are hip on the etc forum bug already. Cool Beans. __{{emoticon}}__

Last summer I did an install on a spare machine.
Installed stable , changed all the repos to testing and dist-upgraded.
Worked pretty well , not much drama.
Then I thought it might be fun to go back to stable.
Changed all repos to stable and the fun began.
Going backward is NOT for the faint hearted.
I got it done , but would have been about 10 hours quicker to do a fresh install.
I would think you could run stable for a few years without much trouble at all.
I tried it , and probably won't try it again (going backwards).

There are times when it is better to just flow with the tide rather than try to fight it.
I see you found out the hard way. Going with testing may be fun, but trying to go back to stable is a PITA. I always advise to do a fresh install when you want to attempt this, as you found out.cwilliams wrote:...Going backward is NOT for the faint hearted.
