There is a debate @ mepislovers regarding updating your system. The debate is using aptitude vs. apt-get. What is the preferred method in antix? And should you use gui or cli? In graphics mode or text mode? Thanks.

I'm used to apt-get. To search and install apps I use Synaptic. Now for dist-upgrade I use smxi.
Aptitude seems to work well but I think they way it will make compromises to install problem packages makes me wonder.

I use smxi with sidux, and at least on one of my antiX partitions as well (but not all of them). When I use a native package manager, I use apt-get from the command line or synaptic from the GUI. When using antiX, I'd say that apt-get receives the most use from me.

I use apt fir update/upgrade, and also to install an individual package. Use Synaptic for searching as well as installing multiple packages. Will probably use smxi to upgrade kernel when/if available for MEPIS, otherwise Synaptic.

In antiX, I use smxi for upgrades, on my M8 synaptic, M7 the same, Sidux apt-get, and Debian Lenny have used only aptitude, getting used to aptitude, but it really does handle all problems better than apt-get or synaptic, it does take some getting used to though.
