Hi,

A while ago I started a topic 'flickering of screen'. Now I think it was the wrong title. But I'm not sure either whether or not I got the right title of the subject now.

I use MMS player to play a CD of the Rolling Stones in Workspace Alpha. I was internetting in workspace Beta. Then suddenly this moving around in workspaces starts and I can't stop it. Moreover some 'programs' are started.I just have to wait until it stops. __{{emoticon}}__
Now it stopped in workspace Beta. 7 sreens of snapshots done messages, 4 file manager windows, 1 terminal window, 4 run programs windows and one Set Workspace name window. When I move to worspace Alpha I see XMMS and the browser (which I opened in workspace Beta and now 8 tabs of AntiX mainpages and two GMail tabs opened __{{emoticon}}__ ), the other two workspaces are not available. __{{emoticon}}__

So it really ended up with a mess. And the moving around happened before this evening, but then it ended with the layouts it started with.

Any idea what to do about it __{{emoticon}}__ __{{emoticon}}__ __{{emoticon}}__

Well, now it happened again. It created now workspaces, started terminals, clocktime settings etc.
I think I'll have to try whether this happens with other distro's also. Hope I can find what it is and what to do about it. I think I'll try Mepis Lite for this.

Just rebooted my system by pushing the reboot button.. __{{emoticon}}__ __{{emoticon}}__

This sounds like an issue with the keyboard and or touchpad if it's a laptop. Is it?

No, it s Pentium III, 450Mhz, 192Mb RAM. Sometimes it takes long before 'it' starts. But this evening after startup and starting XMMS it happened again. Sometimes, but I'm not sure, it seems to start after touching the mouse again after a time of 'doing nothing'. Like I'm typing this on my XP laptop, playing the Stones still on this Pentium and meanwhile downloading SimplyMepis 7.0. According to the website it should run on my 'old' Pentium.

(Well now this stupid thing starts again.... __{{emoticon}}__ )

Any tips on mouse settings or so?

Thanks erie,

I don't know if it's related, but i've had this happen a couple of times (or something similar) in the last week or two, where all of a sudden i can't stop the computer from switching from one screen to the next (At"Lightning" speed of course) and with stuff flashing all over the place. It seemed to be mouse related because when i didn't touch the mouse it would stop, then when i started moving the mouse again it would start. Even if i moved the mouse just a little it would flick from screen to screen and do the weirdest things, completely unusable. The only way to stop it was a complete reboot.

Since i've disabled conky & stopped using IceWeasel, i haven't had it happen at all. I'm not saying they're the cause, or even anything to do with it, but my system's really stable now.

When it happened i just put it down to me tinkering about with so much stuff and making changing & adding things that i probably shouldn't etc...... now i'm not so sure. __{{emoticon}}__

piedie - is it a standard (ie: unmodified) install you have there or have you changed/altered/added/removed anything at all?

Somethings getting crossed. You could try to reconfigure xorg.
as root

Code: Select all

#dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
Follow the instruction by selecting the corresponding drivers etc and it might work.

Well, I would not call it standard anymore. I did a kind of upgrade guided by Anti because I thought it was 'necessary' to go to 7.2. And I installed OO and a teletext browser. Also tried to get my Canon printer working.

I will try to do what Erie writes and hope I know what drivers to choose.

Otherwise I will first try SimplyMepis or perhaps do he re-install of AntiX-M7.2

Thanks DJiNN. By the way: it seems like the same thing which I described.

I would certainly do that as well. As for choosing the correct drivers, there's a few commands that you can type in to find out what hardware you're using, but unfortunately i don't know them. __{{emoticon}}__

Perhaps anticpitalista or eriefisher could help there?

Post your results if you can, and i wish you luck. I'm sure you'll get it sorted out. Since i've changed those few things on mine, it's been back to the way it was before, and hasn't played up since. Maybe it's worth running htop (press F9) to see what processes are running, just in case you have several things that may be conflicting, or something running which shouldn't be? __{{emoticon}}__

This evening I installed Mepis 7. The same sort of thing happened within minutes. Moreover now I can not start Antix in graphical mode form the GRUB menu. I can as mepis1 user but then I do not know how to start the graphical mode.

Could you tell me how to edit the grub menu to start AntiX in graphical mode?

Maybe one of coming days I'll try Mepis Light, but I do not think it will solve my initial problem described here __{{emoticon}}__ __{{emoticon}}__

When you installed Mepis, did you install grub to the MBR?

Post the contents of /boot/grub/menu.lst (the one you boot from)

Piedie,

Were you using"Lyristrata" prior to using"VETËVENDOSJE!"? If so, did it ever happen when you were using that older version of antiX?

Yes, I did. But like I wrote somewhere before I will start with a fresh install of AntiX 7.2.

Hi,

I changed my five button optical mouse for a three button 'ball' mouse and now everything works fine.

Thank you all for helping.
