i686 is fine for above posted gear. I am a biker imart. I see a bunch of stuff has been going on since my ride.
AntiX 11 Base i686, couldn't select fluxbox w/o icons, had to select the default when booting
Don't know as I have always went with the default and then set up wbar and lxpanel or tint2 after install in fluxbox.
My base installs are pretty tweaked Desktops.

AntiX 11 I686 full iso, accepted fluxbox w/o icons, wouldn't eject the LiveCD on shutdown
Don't know either as eject cd worked for me and even turned off live usb also (light went out) with live usb install media.

looks like a shutdown issue was found by dark-D (still getting used to the handle ice) that I did not know of. I've always had a glitch with gui logout in fluxbox where I would get a"failed to execute process logout" but hitting
it twice would get me to slim. I never mentioned it as it is no big deal for me. Plus. It happens intermittently. Which means. It don't happen all the time. Not a show stopper for me. __{{emoticon}}__

I guess you can always just add

user-name ALL=(ALL) ALL

to your sudoer file and comment out the rest. user-name means your user name.

Dark D, you're supposed to always use visudo when editing the sudoer file

rokytnji; good ride? like the screenshots!

figured out the i486-i686 thing

going to give this issue a little space, refresh, then attack dark-D's recommendations

fyi, gave AntiX 11 Base i686 LiveCD a spin this evening, so far it works, can only think of 2-3 apps to add and, if it works on the kiddo's laptop can get out of the dog house and have only 1 Linux to work maintain ...

thanks all, good nite

Up late watching scream awards and drinking beer. This Laptop install dates back to when AntiX 11 was in test 3 version. I never re-installed the release version. Just kept upgrading

when done. I apt-get clean and test reboot, logout, and shutdown in Icewm and Fluxbox.

Now. For perspective. This Laptop.

which is a Panasonic CF-48. Sits under my desk hardly ever getting updated or booted because of flaky lcd cable. Update tonight was a monstrous 680+MB dist-upgrade.

Reboot,Shutdown,Logout all work via gui in fluxbox and icewm. I removed 2.6.32 mepis kernel image also and did a update-grub also.

After 2 dist-upgrades like I had in
viewtopic.php?f=40&t=3177
the other bork/breakage of status file was on my AntiX 11 base install fluxbox Motorcycle Shop Desktop with Daves repos and antixcc-utils installed there also. I have gotten good of getting rid of (practice),

Code: Select all

dpkg: error: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 13998 package 'antix-cc-utils':
blank line in value of field 'Description'
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
so it was nice when this dist-upgrade returned no dpkg error codes.

Disclaimer by a drinking biker: My Opinion only.

Installing Daves repos in /etc/apt/sources.list to install antixcc-utils in base or core installs break /var/lib/dpkg/status file which breaks dist-upgrade since I have experienced this twice now and since Daves repos are not enabled on this laptop, and no dpkg errors like in my above code tags and thread link. I have become proficent at fixing the empty space/blank line in Description in /var/lib/dpkg/status file by putting in a

Code: Select all

 .
in the empty space on every empty line error in Description for Daves packages in /var/lib/dpkg/status file. So just a heads up. Hope this post makes sense since I have 3 sheets in the wind right now. __{{emoticon}}__
