Hi,

I installed Synaptic in antix HD installed 8.2 version,

When i was trying to install open office from Synaptic by right click -> install, its returning this error:
openoffice.org:
Depends: openoffice.org-core but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-writer but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-calc but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-impress but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-draw but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-math but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-base but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-report-builder-bin but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-officebean but it is not going to be installed
Recommends: openoffice.org-filter-binfilter but it is not going to be installed

So it tried each of the packages it shows, however each returns such similar errors.

For e.g, using open office base, the error is:

openoffice.org-base:
Depends: openoffice.org-core but it is not going to be installed
Depends: openoffice.org-base-core but it is not going to be installed

I tried with the core files also given above:

They are returning again error as"librdf0" missing, thes lib again returns :
librdf0:
Depends: libsqlite3-0 (>=3.6.17) but 3.6.14.2-1 is to be installed
Recommends: redland-utils but it is not going to be installed
One thing to mention is i was trying to install openoffice from meta package installer, initially with few more packages but there was some interruption. However after that in installed a lot of packages from synaptic but this really is paining.

And when i also tried with meta now, the error is given as:

Enable the /unstable Debian repo, do apt-get update then apt-get install openoffice.org.

Then, if all is ok, comment out the unstable repo.

Try
aptitude install openoffice.org

and choose the first option, unless it says it will rip out a load of stuff.

I wonder if you could make a sticky out of this post? I'm sure plenty of people feel they need to have a full-feature office suite, much as they may like minimalist OS.

In short, to get OpenOffice running on AntiX 8.2, as root do the following:

1) edit /etc/apt/apt.conf to read
APT::Cache-Limit 40000000;

2) edit /etc/apt/source.list and uncomment line
deb

linktext was:"http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/"
====================================
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false unstable main contrib non-free

3) apt-get update

4) /usr/sbin/synaptic - select Edit/Fix Broken Packages [may not be necessary, but does no harm]

5) apt-get install openoffice.org

6) undo step 2

That's it, has worked on two computers for me so far.

This is definitely not the norm. There were several individual issues blocking you here. Mainly I think there must be a package miss match from OO.o in the repo. Normally you shouldn't mix (flip/flop) synaptic and aptitude but I'm glad you got through it without being discouraged.
