During the remastering process, there is a file called"message" in the new-iso/boot/grub folder.

Clicking on this message file shows that it's a cpio archive that consists of several files, including another file called message.

What exactly does this"message" file within the message cpio archive file do?

After extracting all of the files in the"message" file and making changes (like trimming the languages in the languages file, and making changes to the en.hlp file), what cpio command do I need to use to recompress the files?

the message file contains the image for the grub background. you can edit it as such:

========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Cpio"
linktext was:"http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Cpio"

OK, that web page answered most of my questions, but I still don't understand what the message file WITHIN the message cpio archive is for. Does this file have any purpose?
