Hmmmm Ubuntu want to charge me for a feature i've had for free off them historically....

"Hello!

Thank you for testing Ubuntu One contacts synchronization for your
mobile phone. We hope you have enjoyed the feature since we
temporarily removed the 30-day limit a few months ago. Many people
like you have given us valuable feedback which has guided recent
improvements on the server and client software.

Now that Mobile Contacts Sync has matured, the feature will soon move
out of beta status and no longer be available to free Ubuntu One
users. This will occur a few days prior to the Ubuntu 10.10
release. When this happens, nothing will happen to your existing
contacts on your phone or in your personal cloud. You will just no
longer be able to sync your contacts using your mobile phone. Existing
50 GB plan users will still have access to the feature.

After we stop the beta, Mobile Contacts Sync will return as part of a
brand new and expanded mobile offering where the first 30 days will be
free - we hope you'll enjoy what we've done with it.

Continue to watch our blog in the coming days for news about
improvements to Ubuntu One features and an update on plans that we
think everyone will be thrilled with.

Thank you!
The Ubuntu One Team

Do i reply suggesting that Mark Shuttleworth can surely fund a few GB's of hosting and bandwidth?....

Is this a sign of stuff to come from Ubuntu?...

Am I ranting?

While I understand your frustration. And being a Biker I can be prone to profanity when I am upset in real life. I just had to edit your title via 2 letters because I am a mod here now and with that comes certain responsibilities.

So don't get upset. No big deal to me any ways. Yeah. I'd be PO also. At least they let ya know first instead of cutting you off with no explanation or hit you with a hidden charge. I don't use the Ubuntu One service though I do boot Ubuntu on a couple other machines. At least if I don't like where a certain distro is heading. There are plenty of others to use. Just a download away.

I would suspect that this is part of his plan to make Ubuntu profitable. Myself, I don't use Ubuntu One either although I have 10.04 on my newest laptop. I'm not sure if I will keep using Ubuntu, since it is getting bloated. The best thing about it is the repositories, but I think Debian has all that and more, so I may switch to that or just switch that laptop to AntiX also.

With Ubuntu looking to switch to monthly releases it is becoming more and more of a joke these days. They then should just make it a rolling release a la Arch/Aptosid and make ISO's available at least twice a year.
