I've installed Ted twice (both apt-get and synaptic). Both times the install goes fine, no errors. But when launching the program I get the splash screen and this report in terminal:
ted: Symbol '_XmStrings' has different size in shared object, consider re-linking
After this no new or old document screen will launch. Ted worked fine in Spartacus, but something in Lysistrata is getting in the way.
Edit: Debian bug? See:

Maybe it is a debian bug, but that link is old (2005).
I just replicated the error, so it isn't your box.

Thanks for the confirmation.
Yes, the link is old. Hmmmm.
The Debian site lists the Ted-gtk version. So what would happen if I completely remove the current regular Ted, download the gtk version from Debian, and try an install of that? If I used xfp package manager, would that warn me if something horrible was going to happen?

Well I tried to install ted-gtk using aptitude and it wouldn't do it, which probably means that it is not a good idea to try it.
You could try using installing ted from source tarball.

Well, I sure appreciate the heads up. (I'm on my second install of Lysistrata and I've just gotten it all nice and configured...)
Actually, Ted is not a must-have for me. But it's on my short list of mini-apps for use on minimalist systems. I'll keep my eye on it.
[Dieselbenz got the gtk Sylpheed working and seems very happy with it--so I guess you don't know until you try]
