I notice that this nice little app which I always use in Ubuntu based systems is part of MX14. This makes it drop dead easy to configure samba. The question I have is that I have never seen this app in the Debian repos. If I want to try out another debian based distro, how can I get this app? Is it available in one of the backports or does it have to be compiled manually? If so, how can I compile it correctly.

Again, I'm so glad to see this app in MX14. Great job!! Little things like this go a long way with me. There are so many other"little things" in MX 14 for someone discoverying MX14 for the first time (eg. the MX set of custom tools.)

you could try to download the .deb from the mepis community repo. It would likely work on any debian-wheezy based distro (might work on Jessie based, haven't tried...). Its available here:

url was:"http://main.mepis-deb.org/mepiscr/repo/pool/main/s/system-config-samba/"
linktext was:"http://main.mepis-deb.org/mepiscr/repo/ ... fig-samba/"

IIRC, system-config-samba has been compiled from source available in an Ubuntu PPA. Not sure on that one. You won't find it in the debian or debian-backport repos.
