Don't know if this will work for you, but the suspend and hibernate work great from the quit button on antiX 8.5, however whenever I closed my lid on my laptop, it appeared to suspend but then would lock up and nothing would bring it back to life, not even skinny elephants, so did a little work and

opened synaptic and enabled sid repos and installed
uswsusp and it's depends

then went to a root terminal and entered:

s2ram

my computer suspended and then woke up,

now when I close my lid it suspends, when I reopen my lid I get a black screen, then
ctrl-alt-f1 then ctrl-alt-f7 and bada bing everything works, back to work.
I'm sure there is a simple fix to avoid the ctrl-alt-f1-f7 and if you know, let me know.

I found that changing the acpi scripts from the eeepc-acpi-scripts to acpi-support in synaptic helped this situation for me
