You raise some interesting points.

No one said anything about automounting all drives/partitions. But it is rather nice to be able to SEE the internal drives/partitions in the filemanger side pane, like other DE file browsers (Thunar, pcmanfm, etc...). By default, internal drives/partitions do not appear in the list at left. Having them appear in the left pane will NOT automount them unless you make other changes.

a single pane default view would be ok too. that's how pcmanfm and thunar's default view looks, as well as spacefm's default single-pane detail view.
I actually tend to keep one pane in"detail" and one pane in"icon" or"compact", so I hear what you are saying. But"icon" would be similar to how rox operates/looks by default, and so would be consistent.

the highlighted status bar could easily be white on blue, which should be Ok for color blind folks. My boss is color blind, and he could see that config easier than the green on blue, so good call.

Now for some possibly sticky points.

Items 5 and 6 - My opinion is that the mount and unmount commands be set to"auto".
I think that's what I was reacting to, re automount, but maybe you meant connectshares

If you _DO_ want spacefm to automount, launch it (typically as an autostart item) as
$ spacefm -d

One of my big sticking points with the spacefm -d (automount) scenario involves the"find" command.
Unlike for"locate", where we can ignore selective paths by editing etc/updatedb.conf and adding /media to the PRUNEPATHS= line
I don't know how to block contents of /media from being returned in results of, for instance:
cd /
find *.gz

FWIW, one of the SLiM F1 session options is"spacefm+fluxbox" and back when I tried that, wondering what the benefit would be... the automountng behavior (confused and) annoyed me. I repeatedly used Rox-filer to UNmount a device and grrrrr it would"mysteriously" get mounted again.
I actually tend to keep one pane in"detail" and one pane in"icon" or"compact"
agree that would be useful but I still have an ol' 4:3 display, not widescreen

ah, I see the confusion. 5 and 6 refer to setting the mount command and unmount command to"auto detect a mount command". My fault for not being clear. This does not automount a partition, it just allows spacefm to find an appropriate mount command (in case of 5) or a unmount command (in case of 6) to do a task. It will usually fall on udevil if its installed (which it is in antiX).

I actually quit using spacefm desktop because it was interfering with conky, so my system doesn't automount anything unless you have spacefm open when you insert a stick. so I use rox pinboard for the icons and spacefm for most of my file needs.

That's a good point about automounting. If we would want to disable all automounting in spacefm, you can uncheck"Mount Optical" and"Mount Removable" from the spacefm devices/settings menu. Then spacefm would behave more or less similar to rox, where you have to click on the partition in /media before the mount takes place.

In other news, spacefm is out today with a new .9 version.
