M8 base takes forever to boot on account of DHCP discovery over two network interfaces.

There are two things that I need to do:
a) Stop/remove the network discovery on boot through any means

b) find a network manager that will connect automagically to wireless networks that I put in a list of some sort (there are three wireless networks that I use in the course of a day- work, school, and home). Also easy connection when I roam away from those three to a wifi hot spot.

I installed M8 base because I would rather build UP than strip out an OS, so in this respect I would prefer functionality over size.

For
a) use boot cheatcode mean

b) you may wish to use ceni, or mnetwork (both already included in antiX-base) or install wicd.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was having trouble using mnetwork while using the live cd, so I have been using ceni, but I just noticed the"Start/Restart on Apply" option in the mnetwork interface (saves me a reboot and a lot of trouble).

What do I have to edit for the"mean" cheatcode to be applied without typing it everytime?

For installed antiX, add the word mean to the
/boot/grub/menu.lst

For livecd, you have to type it __{{emoticon}}__

Edit: Actually, no you don't for livecd. It is in the Extras grub choice and the no Net option

I would recommend wicd. It's the easiest one to configure and it will show all the available networks, in the case that you need to switch the default network. Ceni will also do this but it's more involved and takes more steps. The mepis network assistant has not been very useful for me.

Thanks again everyone, I've been spoiled by Debian/Ubuntu over the last 4 years. I'll try wicd as well. Ceni is great as a back-up because it is very involved. I have had no problems yet with mnetwork though. I forgot about the grub menu list, it's been a while since I've had to edit one.

antiX is really Debian with goodies from MEPIS, sidux and ideas from other non-Debian distros such as TinyMe, Absolute and Wolvix.
