bedna, that sf nonsense has me riled up too...
but I continually download/test LOTS of stuff and I've _NEVER_ seen sourceforge"mess with" any software intended for linux users.

I dual-boot WinXP and, yes, I've encountered multiple crapware-laden exe installer downloads from sourceforge.
If a zipped version of a windows app isn't available, I may still download it... but would only run it inside sandboxie.

A lot of distros and application maintainers have been dropping SF for Github...so the concern about SF is real, not just for Windows but for Linux as well. Wasn't SF compromised recently?

This whole thing is escalating around here. My ISP (Internode) have decided to drop their"free from download quota" Sourceforge Mirror all together Linux stuff included). They refuse to offer a service to their customers that encourages the use of malware/adware and download content hijacking of individual projects.

There may only be Windows developers affected thus far but there are some pretty important Windows apps involved here.

Personally I think it is a matter of principle - and I would be much happier if one of my favorite distros had nothing to do with a site that has slipped so far into the"scumbag" abyss!

More and more projects are finding bloatware in code. No more SF.
