Any thoughts on what would be a simple Linux game to test with and what needs to be configured?
Yes, its an old machine, the Dual PIII 750, and I'm trying to use Wine to play an old 1998 Windows 95/98 game.
I just never give up, LOL
here is the lspci. its odd that it comes up with an ensoniq 5880b sound card

A ton of stuff is available for install in synaptic that refers to joystick that you probably do not have installed yet since your original AntiX install.
I don't game much or use a joystick. Hence my vague answer.
Code: Select all

$ apt search joystick

It doesn't see it has a joystick/
cat /dev/input/js0
cat: /dev/input/js0: No such file or directory
jstest-gtk just has a blank window
I installed the gl-117 flight simulator but it just crashes
the keyboard and mouse seem to function but the joystick has no effect. I tried a different joystick, a generic ibm options flight yoke and it didn't do anything either.
i did try rebooting like the aricle suggested as well...
I also tried 2 other sound cards, but niether was any better

yes, i installed joystick as well.
I used the gui interface to do the installs but there were no errors.
Is there somewhere that I can look to see that some sort of joystick driver is installed? /dev/js0 not being there suggests to me that I'm missing something there, but I don't know enough to know what is missing...

Install lshw and run it as root in terminal . The joy stick needs to be plugged in before boot up also.
Debian clone of Space Invaders or Galaga would be my choices.Any thoughts on what would be a simple Linux game to test with
