While doing a dist-upgrade I said NO to an upgrade for /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base and now I can't get sound to work, bring up alsamixer or even open MOC. I answered yes another time and same thing. Hmmmm........btw I have enabled the sid repos.

What do I need to edit to restore sound?

trying uninstalling and reinstalling alsa-base, no go! Is there something in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf I need to edit to get it back up and running?

Btw, got rid of wicd, ceni works fine for my wireless usb adapter and Xorg is fully updated as a result of the DU with sid repos enabled __{{emoticon}}__ . 2 out of 3 ain't bad lol

try as root in a terminal:

Code: Select all

apt-get remove --purge alsa-base alsa-oss alsa-utils
then:

Code: Select all

apt-get install alsa-base alsa-oss alsa-utils

unohu62,

Sorry for the delay, secipolla is correct your driver is not loading, why, I don't know but maybe we can try to load it,

can you as user in terminal post output of these one at a time in a code box.

lspci | grep -i audio

lsmod | grep -i snd

as root in terminal

modinfo snd-maestro3

or you can just try:

modprobe snd-maestro3

then see if your sound works.

cheers,

A good practice is to keep an antiX live-cd. If you have one, then boot into it and compare its files with the ones in the installed system, correcting the latter if needed.

Ok,

Just as an experiment how about placing

snd-maestro3 in /etc/modules and then reboot

open /etc/modules as root and add the line:

snd-maestro3

save and close and then reboot
