Do you know which card you have? If not try this:

Code: Select all

lspci | grep audio
Post the output. Also, you could run aumix and check any levels.

I have had this happen on my Amrel Laptops also. Seems Debian has dropped support for some sound chips in the newer kernels.

Had to go with a older kernel. Like AntiX 8.0 or 7.5.

Hi Eriefisher,
here is the output...(I tried to enter grep audio but it didn't produce any information)
What do you suggest from here?

root@mepis:/home/vincent# lspci | grep audio
root@mepis:/home/vincent# lspci

Well, it doesn't show a sound card but I notice two other things.

1- (AGP disabled) It is possible that there is a agp sound card but not likely.

2-you show an isa bridge, this is more than likely where the sound card is looking at the age of this machine.

A lot of drivers have been dropped but you still may be able to get it working with some googleing. You may need to open the box and physically look at the card.

An easier solution would be to get a pci sound card(very cheap) if you have a free port.
