edit: network and speaker problem fixed, just trying to get youtube sound working now....

In my effort to get the 5th and 6th screens working, I had to swap many cards and slots. I got the screens working with a 3rd PNY nvidia fx 5500 card in the AGP slot (the other 2 are PCI), but I can't seem to get the ethernet or sound card working now. The ethernet was working before, but I hadn't gotten the sound card to work before.

The ethernet card appears on the MEPIS network assistant as a
00:0d:0 Accton Technology Corporation SMC2-1211TX [1113:1112] {rev 10}

and the driver s associated are
ndiswrapper
8139too
mii

i have a router with a dhcp server, so all it needs to do is request an address, etc for a dynamic ip.

Basically, I don't know what to do to get it to reconfigure properly. I'm used to windoze, I'm afraid, and don't know what to do under linux.

As for the sound card, the pci devices list shows a Ensoniq ES1370 [AudioPCI] and a kernel module snd-ens1370 for it, and I tried the configuration and mixer programs, boosting the output on all mixer bars, but don't know how to test to see if it works becuse I have no movies or audio files that I know of

Ok, I got the ethernet running.... I booted from the live cd and noticed it only had an eth0, where my messed up version had eth0 and eth1, so I removed the eth1, and then I found by pressing enter on something that a screen came up that reset things. I just didn't know to press enter.

As for the sound card, I found once I got the network going that after switching speakers because the ones on the monitor didn't work, that I could play some files

i spent the week fighting performance problems. finally, after trying 3 different nic cards, things are running at reasonable speeds. i disdn't figure it out till i tried the youtube again and realized that even the video portion was running very slow, but using very little cpu, when on other machines on the same network playing the same video there was no performance problem at all.

this didn't solve the sound problem, but it got my critical app running at a much more usable speed.

back to the sound problem.... if i could see that image again. I know sound itslf works becase I have other sond apps playing fine now... Its just that there are so many good clips on youtbe these days.

Instead of a Snapshot since I am on my Asus EEE where the screen is to small to give you everything, I just copied and pasted my"about:plugins" for Iceweseal 3.0.14

Youtube sound now works. I got it working a little bit ago by putting on some amplified speakers I had laying around. I think the problem was with my on board sound card, not the drivers or plugins. The volume on it was so low when connected to the HD Audio connector, that even at maximum volume you could only hear it on headphones.
