I downloaded file in Qupzilla then double-clicked it in Download Manager.
I expected to see Thunar window but Chromium browser opened instead displaying content of my download folder
(file:///home/mm/Downloads/)
If I right-click it choosing 'open folder' the result is the same.

It must be something to do with chromium browser. (google spying on you?)
Was it like this before you installed chromium?

you can use the mime-type editor in the menu to reset associations. chrome and chromium have a bad habit of taking over certain functions when you install them.

there are 40 entries with 'chromium' in mime-types editor but I dont see anything related to file manager. all of them are 'default' so reset doesnt help.

hmmm...check and make sure that in the XFCE settings item called"Preferred Applications" on its Utilities tab that Thunar is still set as the preferred file manager.

yes thunar is default.
I should have mentioned that I use openbox-session, not xfce.
anyway I uninstalled chromium, entries in mimetypeseditor disappeared.
now when I click on downloaded file in download manager nothing happens.
by the way, why is qupzilla not registered as x-www-browser???
$ x-www-browser
bash: x-www-browser: command not found
# update-alternatives --config x-www-browser
update-alternatives: error: no alternatives for x-www-browser

I installed chromium on my mx machine, and the downloads still open in thunar from qupzilla. however, I am still using xfce. Have you tried from an xfce session to see if there is a difference?

I have now installed openbox. The file link from qupzilla's download manager does not work by default under openbox (opens a chromium window if chromium is installed, as you noted). The operation works fine under xfce (opens thunar).
