If it is an audio cd, you don't mount it.

It was a blank CD I wanted to burn. I hadn't to mount it, indeed. Sorry.

The problem exists. I put an audio CD into the drive and get the error message I wrote at the first post. What I have to do with audio CDs?

Don't mount them. Use xmms to play them.

How to do so? Opening Xmms doesn't play it automatically.
And if I want to see the files contained? Isn't there a way to do so?

Put in cd, open xmms, File, Play Location ans type /media/sr0 OK.

cd should start playing.

You could also install another player, but they are likely to be heavier on RAM usage.

I followed the instructions, but it doesn't play. And I also can't see the files at all.

Put in audio CD
  • Open XMMS
    Open its playlist window
Check audio CD directory
  • Options-->Preferences
    Select CD Audio Player from list of Input Plugins-->Configure
    It will show the Device /dev/sr0 and its Directory /media/cdrom
    Click Check drive button to verify its working OK
    If OK close all windows back to main XMMS window
Play audio CD
  • File-->Play location
    Type /media/cdrom (and click play button
    Listen to music and see tracks listed in playlist window
Alternatively

Put in audio CD
  • Open GNOME MPlayer
    Open its Playlist window
Play audio CD
  • File-->Disc-->Open Audio CD
    Listen to music and see tracks listed in playlist window

Thanks for the detailed instructions. Both XMMS and GNOME MPlayer work. But isn't there a way to see the audio files themselves? For example, is it possible to copy one of them to the hard disc?

Well, actually an audio CD doesn't store its contents in the form of"files". You can however rip it and save its tracks as audio files to your hard disc - which is quite easy with the help of Asunder, a CD ripper that is included in antiX-16.

Insert a CD in your player, launch Asunder, and you will see a list of the CD tracks. The further procedure should hopefully be self-explanatory.

It's also included in my antiX-15.1 (updated & dist-upgraded) system and it got the job perfectly done. Many thanks.
