I finally broke down and ordered a new Dell Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming laptop. It has a i7-6700HQ quad processor and nVidia GTX 960M video, and I ordered a 250gb Samsung 850 EVO m.2 Sata III SSD for it. According to the benchmarks it should be about 7 times as fast as my current laptop that is now about 10 years old.

Possibly useful information:
For one laptop with Intel HD 5500 graphics, I had to install the Antix 4.10 kernel and the jessie-backports version of xserver-xorg-video-intel v2.99. In fact, I had to remaster a USB stick to do so, since it would become unstable before I could update with the stock 4.4 kernel.
For another laptop with Intel HD 520 graphics, the 4.4 kernel and stock jessie video seems to work fine.
