So I'd like to add some programs, and then make my oiwn respin that I can run with desktop=icewm persist-all from USB from any pc I plug it into?

Best way is to run live with persistence with the cheats you want, insatll the apps you want, then reboot to check all is ok, and then remaster.
Make sure that you do not install too many apps (size wise) in one go as you will run out of RAM

Thanks, anti. I haven't remastered yet, but I now have the one USB working for 3 different machines, so the concept works.
