I have just installed antiX on my Compaq Presario V2000 laptop. I cannot get the wireless to work.
I previously had Mint on the laptop and was able to get wireless using the instructions at:
========= SCRAPER REMOVED AN EMBEDDED LINK HERE ===========
url was:"http://linux-bsd-sharing.blogspot.ca/2012/03/howto-enabling-broadcom-bcm4318.html"
linktext was:"http://linux-bsd-sharing.blogspot.ca/20 ... m4318.html"
====================================
This doesn't seem to work with antiX.
When I open Wicd Network Manager it say"No wireless network found".
In the antiX Control Center >Network>Network interfaces, I was able to see the wireless network listed and entered the password, but it still does not work.
I would sure appreciate some help with this.
Thanks

I selected the wifi and entered my password in the configuration but it still does not work. Maybe, I did it wrong. I have never done this before.watsoccurring wrote:Hi greyowl, try using antix control panel,Network, Network Interfaces(ceni)

looks like your wireless has a network address
so does your web browser just not work?
also, that one command should be
Code: Select all
wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:14:a5:7a:a8:20
inet addr:192.168.2.55 Bcast:192.168.2.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

it looks like the driver loads and and it gets an IP address. So is your symptom that you can't get a web browser or such to access a site.
what about
and if you followed the directions in that link...well, they were 5 years old. this part should have worked on antiX out-of-the-box.
what about
Code: Select all
ping google.com

Thanks for the help.
Well, it is now working. I removed the network cable and restarted and it now works. Previously, I started it with the network cable attached, then removed it and I had no internet. So, does this mean that I have to have the network cable detached in order to get the wifi to work?
Will antiX pick up public wifi without any configuring?

You probably don't need to disconnect the cable, just disable the connection. at the commandline you can do
and
to bring connections down and up.
I thin wicd also has the capability, but I don't recall how its worded.
depends on how the public wifi is configured, but yes, I've used liveUSB's at hotels and universities.greyowl wrote:Thanks for the help.
